Abstract

[ES] Practica aEl siguiente trabajo de final de grado aborda la creación artística y discurso derivados de la experiencia oncológica, tomando la enfermedad -y más concretamente el cáncer- como paradigma generador de una nueva perspectiva en el arte. El principal objetivo de este estudio es poner de manifiesto cómo la condición estereotipada del cáncer estigmatiza gravemente a la persona enferma, principalmente a las mujeres. Para abordar la cuestión, se parte de conceptos clave tomados de la psiquiatría y la sociología que justifican tanto la elaboración e integración que se hace de la experiencia del cáncer -previa a la producción artística-, como los estereotipos y prejuicios asociados a la enfermedad. Así mismo, se recurre a una perspectiva de género para dar respuesta a esta problemática. Para ello, este estudio se sustenta en las reflexiones sobre la enfermedad y el cáncer, llevadas a cabo por Susan Sontag. De manera análoga, se profundiza en el discurso y obra de las artistas Jo Spence y Siobhan Hebron, subrayando las motivaciones críticas intrínsecas a su obra y el carácter autobiográfico y subjetivo de su producción. Las conclusiones muestran que el discurso sobre el cáncer que promueven los medios y que está asentado en el imaginario colectivo, perjudica especialmente a mujer. Igualmente se concluye que la práctica artística autobiográfica desde el prisma de la enfermedad tiene un carácter terapéutico y contribuye tanto a denunciar y visibilizar esta circunstancia como a favorecer la creación de una perspectiva que combate los mecanismos de discriminación asociados. rtística que reflexiones sobre la representación de las enfermedades.

[EN] The following final work deals with artistic creation and discourse derived from the oncological experience, taking the disease -and more specifically cancer- as a paradigm to generate new perspectives in art. The main objective of this study is to show how the stereotypical condition of cancer severely stigmatizes the person affected by the disease, particularly women. This text applies concepts of psychiatry and sociology to justify both the elaboration and integration of the experience of cancer prior to artistic production. Additionally, it addresses the stereotypes and prejudices associated with the disease through a gender perspective to respond to these issues. This way, the study is based on the reflections on disease and cancer, carried out by Susan Sontag. Similarly, as case studies delves into the discourse and work of artists Jo Spence and Siobhan Hebron, underlining the critical motivations intrinsic to their work and the autobiographical and subjective character of their production. The conclusions shows that the discourse on cancer promoted by the media, which is based on the collective imagination, is especially harmful to women. The text concludes with the findings that artistic practices informed by the autobiographical experience of the disease have a therapeutic dimension to make the circumstances of the disease visible, can contribute to denounce and favour the creation of a perspectives that challenge the associated mechanisms of discrimination.
