Cradle to cradle. Hacia una arquitectura circular.

Abstract

ES] La realidad de hoy es diferente a la de los años de la Revolución Industrial cuando el ser humano daba por hecho que la naturaleza era 100% regenerativa ante su actividad. La arquitectura de aquel entonces, y heredada hasta hoy, supuso la implantación de un sistema lineal con productos ¿de la cuna a la tumba¿ donde el residuo no tenía un final regenerativo en la sociedad de consumo del momento. En la actualidad, la corriente "de la cuna a la cuna" (cradle to cradle, en inglés) plantea un sistema donde el residuo sea considerado alimento. En construcción, esta filosofía se refleja en la arquitectura circular, una arquitectura donde los sistemas de producción se realimentan a sí mismos a través de nutrientes/elementos que regresan al sistema constructivo una y otra vez, aumentando su vida útil y reduciendo la necesidad de materias primas y de gestión de residuos.

[EN] Today's reality is different from that of the years of the Industrial Revolution when human beings took it for granted that nature was 100% regenerative to its activity. The architecture of that time, and inherited until today, involved the implementation of a linear system with products "from the cradle to the grave" where the waste did not have a regenerative final in the consumer society of the moment. At present, the current "from cradle to cradle", proposes a system where the waste is considered food. In construction, this philosophy is reflected in circular architecture, an architecture where production systems feed themselves back through nutrients/ elements that return to the building system over and over again, increasing its useful life and reducing the need for raw materials and waste management.
