[EN] In this project, a tool to calculate and optimize the operating variables of a 50 MW hybrid solar thermal power plant with parabolic trough collectors with thermal storage is developed.
The thermosolar plant is located in the town of Bourem (Mali, Africa). It supplies energy to an electrically isolated population and must cover the total of the demanded electricity all year round.
The methodology followed consists in the development of a mathematical model using the sofware Microsoft Excel and the open source tool X Steam Tables. This mathematical model is used to optimize the operating variables of the plant in order to minimize the fuel consumption of the auxiliary boiler. The ultimate goal of the project is to determine the relationship between the size of the solar installation and the amount of fossil fuel required to meet the expected annual demand.
