Tablets computers as HMI at the shop floor

Abstract

[EN] The objective of this project is to show the enormous potential of tablet computers at the shop floor using the realized projects about Wise-Shop Floor and the resources offered by tablet computers. For this purpose, a system based on the Android platform has been developed, which allows a better interaction between employers and machines, and use of tablets in different scenarios such as, machine detection, data monitoring of lathes, or remote control of robots. The results of the project show that tablet computers provide features like comfort, versatility, or multitasking; however, the developed application presents some limitations such as, low battery charge, measure errors, or slow data transmission. Therefore, it is necessary to continue investigating about the topic before any industrial use.
