Abstract

[ES] Es de uno de esos primeros paseos de reconocimiento del área de trabajo cuando la mera visualización del espacio industrial de los silos Dacsa despierta en uno la garantía de que se trata de un lugar interesante para un posible proyecto.

Se trata, de uno de esos proyectos que primero nacen desde la vocación de hacer algo, atraído por la fuerza y rotundidad de la preexistencia, y el tema y programa se deriva de una búsqueda del ¿qué¿ hacer para poder aunar las necesidades del entorno junto con el carácter industrial del lugar. El borde oeste de Nazaret se encuentra en un limbo y parece el resultado de las decisiones que jamás se llevaron a cabo, terminando por convertirse en un límite descuidado con el barrio y agresivo hacia la huerta.

La huerta de Nazaret representa el final del gran anillo de huerta perimetral de la ciudad de Valencia y por tanto la rehabilitación y recuperación de esta área se esgrime de vital importancia, no sólo para el desarrollo del proyecto en particular, sino para la mejora del barrio en general. Y es de esta idea de recuperar la huerta, donde aparece la idea de un Centro de Investigación del arroz.

El arroz no sólo es una de las señas de la cultura valenciana, sino que pasa por ser la base de la alimentación de millones de personas en el mundo. Es ese crisol de culturas, métodos de cultivo, almacenaje e innumerables formas de cocinarlo y consumirlo, lo que se antoja idóneo para crear un lugar de innovación, investigación y vanguardia entorno a la figura del cereal.

Además, la antigua vocación de estos silos metálicos, no es otra que la del almacenaje del arroz, por lo que este nuevo uso de alguna manera entronca con la función para la que fueron concebidas estas estructuras. Esta voluntad de mantener al máximo lo que ya de por si nos ofrece el lugar, así como potenciar lo que se ha perdido o deteriorado, comienza con la recuperación de la huerta que rodea los silos, pero permea en el cómo hacer habitable ese espacio que nació como un mero contenedor.

El uso de la cascarilla del arroz como aislante, la decisión de mantener la imagen original de del complejo desde el exterior, el trabajo con variedades locales de arroz, en todos sus niveles, desde el tradicional y popular, pasando por la investigación y en la cocina de vanguardia, mantienen el carácter del espacio y la idea de mejorar lo existente, potenciando lo actual

El Centro de Investigación del Arroz será pues, un lugar de creación, docencia y exposición de las posibilidades de este alimento.
