[EN] Periodic photonic configurations as photonic crystals (PhCs) and subwavelength grating (SWG) waveguides are gaining
a renewed interest for the development of biosensing structures. By performing a proper design, these periodic
configurations allow a significant sensitivity increase while keeping a compact footprint, what is achieved by exploiting
concepts such as the slow-wave effect, the increase of the light-matter overlap or the interference of dispersion
engineered modes.
