Abstract

[EN] Maps have witnessed our passage through the world, as well as our ambitions for knowledge, power and transcendence. They have also guided our species on a journey through space and time, being an essential tool for understanding ourselves. Imagination and reality coexist in them, as well as art, science and technology. That is why this text makes a brief journey through the history of these representations, reviewing approaches that aspire to explain our place in the world and the trips that we as a species wish to undertake in the future.

[ES] Los mapas han sido testigo de nuestro paso por el mundo, así como de nuestras ambiciones de conocimiento, poder y trascendencia. También han guiado a nuestra especie en un viaje a través del espacio y el tiempo, siendo una herramienta imprescindible para comprendernos. En ellos conviven la imaginación y la realidad, así como el arte, la ciencia y las tecnologías. Por eso este texto hace un breve recorrido por la historia de estas representaciones, revisando aproximaciones que aspiran a explicar nuestro lugar en el mundo y los viajes que como especie deseamos emprender en el futuro.
