La Escultura de harina china, historia, desarrollo y acercamiento a su conservación y restauración

Abstract

[ES] La Escultura de harina (Figura de harina) es una artesanía tradicional y folklórica en China, se utilizan harina de trigo y harina de arroz glutinoso, como el material principal para modelar las piezas, y abarca una amplia variedad de temáticas. Este arte goza de una gran popularidad tanto en el sur como en el norte del país, e incluso internacionalmente. En el año 2008 fue incluido en la Lista de Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la categoría nacional, clasificado en el grupo de las Bellas Artes Tradicionales. Con el desarrollo de la sociedad, este arte ha evolucionado de un tipo juguete a figuras coleccionables, por lo que su conservación cada vez se hace más importante tanto para las obras antiguas de los maestros como para las excelentes obras actuales, y su posible restauración profesional en el futuro también debería ser considerada. Para estudiar estas cuestiones, el trabajo comienza con una revisión histórica, que nos ha permitido comprender los aspectos fundamentales, la importancia y la particularidad que tiene este arte desde su aparición, durante su formación y tal y como se entiende en la actualidad. Todo ello nos lleva a valorar si tiene sentido considerar su conservación y su restauración, ya que se trata de un partrimonio cultural inmaterial de reconocimiento nacional. Toda la información está basada en las escasas fuentes bibliográficas existentes y en las entrevistas realizadas a aquellos artistas representativos con los que ha sido posible contactar. Paralelamente se ha realizado una aproximación práctica a la naturaleza del material constitutivo, comprobando, como era de esperar, su importante tendencia perecedera y la necesidad, por tanto, de desarrollar estudios que garanticen la preservación de piezas que se consideren significativas. El presente estudio puede servir como un punto de partida para futuras investigaciones que desarrollen metodologías específicas sobre el tratamiento de este tipo de arte.

[EN] Dough Sculpture (Dough figurine) is a traditional handicraft and folklore art in China. The principal materials used for dough sculpting are wheat flour and glutinous rice flour, while the themes are highly diverse. It¿s been very popular in both north and south of China and even abroad. In 2008, it became listed as one of a group of traditional arts in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of national category. Along with the development of society, this craft has undergone such an evolution from the making of a type of toys to the craftsmanship of collectables that its conservation is becoming more and more important to both the works by ancient masters and fine pieces of today. It is therefore believed that professional restoration and conservation shall be considered in the future. As an approach to examining these issues, the work begins first with a historical review, which enables us to compass the fundamental aspects, the significance and particularities of this art in the history since the advent and throughout the evolution, and, then, the way they are understood today, which guides us in assessing whether it makes sense to bring up the conservation and restoration for it now that it is a cultural heritage of national recognition. All the information available is based on limited written sources and interviews with those artists who are accessible. In the meantime, however, there has been a practicable way of approach to the determination of material constituents and, assertedly, their important perishable tendencies. Therefore, here comes a necessity to develop studies to ensure the preservation of the pieces considered worth keeping, which will serve as a starting point for future research to develop a set of techniques specific to the conservation of this genre of art.
