Un abrazo de San Juan al Niño Jesús procedente del Antiguo Hospital General de Valencia. Estudio técnico, histórico-iconográfico y propuesta de intervención, HISTÓRICO-ICONOGRÁFICO Y PROPUESTA DE INTERVENCIÓN.

Abstract

[ES] El presente trabajo Final de Grado, se centra en estudio histórico, iconográfico y técnico, así como la propuesta de intervención de una pintura sobre lienzo realizada hacia el siglo XVlll. Se trata de un cuadro de autoría desconocida, con temática religiosa, donde se representa a San Juan Bautista con el Niño Jesús. La obra pertenece a los fondos de la Diputación de Valencia, y se ubica actualmente en dependencias de la capilla del Hospital General Universitario de Valencia. En este estudio se recopila la contextualización histórica del hospital y sus obras, y se plantea una aproximación iconográfica y compositiva de la representación de ambos personajes. Para analizar la obra se ha realizado la documentación de la misma, mediante fuentes bibliográficas comparándola con otras pinturas del periodo Barroco. La obra se encuentra en un mal estado de conservación, y entre sus daños, cabe destacar los que afectan al soporte textil. Se presentan intervenciones antiguas inadecuadas, con doce parches, y se muestran deformaciones notables de la tela, rasgados, agujeros y rotos. Por este motivo, se ha realizado un estudio técnico, estilístico y documental, tanto a nivel de soporte textil como de los diferentes estratos pictóricos de la obra y se ha analizado el estado de conservación. Por último, con toda esta información recogida y estudiada, se ha elaborado una propuesta de intervención y conservación para garantizar su futura perdurabilidad en el tiempo.

[EN] The present Final work of the Bachelor Degree focuses on historical, iconographic and technical study, as well as the proposal for artistic intervention on canvas approximately of the XVlllth Century. It is a work of unknown authorship, with a religious theme, where Saint John the Baptist is represented with the Christ-child. The work belongs to the funds of the Deputation of Valencia, and is currently located in the chapel of the General University Hospital of Valencia. This study compiles the historical contextualization of the hospital and its works of art, and proposes an iconographic and compositional approach to the representation of St. John the Baptist with the Christ-child. To analyze the work, the documentation of the work was made through the bibliographic sources comparing it with other paintings of the Baroque period. The work is in a poor conservation state, and among its damages, it is worth mentioning those that affect the textile support. It presents inadequate old interventions, with twelve patches, and shows remarkable deformations of the fabric, torn, holes and breaks. For this reason, a technical, stylistic and documentary study was carried out, both at the level of textile support and of the different pictorial strata of the work, as well as a thorough examination of the conservation state. Finally, with all this collected and studied information, a proposal for artistic intervention and conservation was made to ensure its future durability over time.
