La Vendedora de Naranjas de Gómez Novella (Valencia, 1871-1956).Estudio histórico-técnico y proceso de intervención

Abstract

[ES] En el presente estudio se desarrolla un trabajo histórico-artístico, técnico, así como un proceso de intervención en una tablilla al óleo firmada por Vicente Gómez Novella (Valencia, 1871-1956) con la representación de una vendedora de naranjas. El autor de la obra, alumno de la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos en Valencia, destacó como retratista, dibujante, así como muralista, si bien ha sido reconocido con el paso del tiempo por sus trabajos fotográficos que merecieron diferentes galardones y premios a lo largo de su trayectoria artística. La obra es deudora de la tradición pictórica de la escuela valenciana del s. XIX ante la búsqueda de recursos narrativos alrededor de escenas y pasajes relativos a los usos y costumbres de los personajes de la huerta. La ejecución pictórica está realizada con una gran fluidez en la pincelada y con posteriores toques de precisión y ajuste para definir algunos elementos puntuales de su composición. La obra se encuentra firmada, tanto por el anverso, como por el reverso, apareciendo además un pequeño apunte de dibujo del rostro de la modelo realizado en grafito en la cara posterior de la tablilla. La pintura se encuentra en un relativo buen estado de conservación, además conserva su enmarcación original, pero adolece de una sedimentación de suciedad superficial, así como de un amarillamiento generalizado producido por la oxidación de los barnices. Cabe significar que la obra en su historicidad no ha sido intervenida nunca en un proceso de restauración.

[EN] In the present study it is developed an historical-artistic and technical project, as well as a process of intervention on an oil painting on board signed by Vicente Gómez Novella (Valencia, 1871-1956) with the representation of an orange seller. The author of the artwork, student of the ¿Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos¿ in Valencia, excelled as a portraitist, drawer, and muralist, although he has been recognized over the years for his work in the field of photography which has earned him various awards and prizes throughout his artistic career. The artwork is indebted to the pictorial tradition of the Valencian school of the 19th century in the search for narrative resources around scenes and passages related to the habits and traditions of the characters of the orchard. The pictorial execution is carried out with a great fluidity in the brushstroke and with subsequent touches of precision and adjustment to define some specific elements of the composition. The artwork is signed, both on the front and on the back, and there is also a small graphite drawing of the model's face on the reverse of the board. The painting is in a relatively good state of conservation, it also preserves its original framing, but suffers from a sedimentation of superficial dirt, as well as a generalized yellowing produced by the oxidation of the varnishes. It should be pointed out that the work in its historicity has never been involved in a restoration process.
