[EN] In this Final Degree Project, the mount of a telescope has been motorized in order to manage its
positioning, which allows the continuous monitoring of celestial bodies.
For this we have used an open source hardware design that consists of a microcontroller (an Arduino
Mega 2560 board with a CNC Shield and two drivers), to which we introduce a code through the serial
connection with which we manage the movement of two stepper motors that are coupled to the axes
of the telescope.
During the work, a study of these components has been made to determine the viability of the project
by analyzing its advantages and disadvantages.
Two methods are have been developed to interact with the board and give it instructions: through a
menu accessed with the LCD screen connected to the board and through a computer application.
The working methods of our motorized mount are as follows:
• The tracking method is used to put a fixed speed on the AR axis so that it tracks an object.
• The manual method is used to control the speed and direction of rotation of the two axes ourselves.
We have worked with an Arduino board to which a CNC Shield v3 is connected, which in turn controls
two DRV2285 drivers, a box made by 3D printing supplied by the tutor that contains the electrical
circuit and two stepper motors with microstepping.
