Abstract

[ES] El siguiente Trabajo Fin de Grado consiste en la realización del diseño de personajes y concept art para una historia original titulada The Spirit and The Human, con el objetivo de recopilar el material producido y unas ilustraciones en un artbook.

Debido a que The Spirit and The Human toma inspiración en la ficción china con atuendos y ambientación tradicional, en cuanto al marco teórico del trabajo, se realiza un estudio cultural del género de ficción chino de carácter histórico más relevante, el wuxia. Se abarca el origen del término, cuestiones sociales, las tradiciones y el contexto de fantasía, o xianxia, que conforman las claves estéticas de este proyecto. Además, se aborda un breve análisis del artbook como obra, así como comentar sus diferentes tendencias o estilos. En referentes que inspiran la producción artística, encontramos a la artista conocida como Velinxi o la obra de Ross Train, Nima (2020), por la calidad del estilo y las innovaciones que ambos introducen en su trabajo.

La producción artística consiste en comenzar la preproducción de The Spirit and The Human, y culmina en un libro de arte. Este libro recopila el material de desarrollo visual y concept art e incluye bocetos, ilustraciones y escenas narrativas con diálogos que contextualizan a los personajes e introducen la trama.

[EN] The following Final Degree Project consists of developing the characters design and concept art for my original story The Spirit and The Human, with the aim of collecting the produced material and illustrations in an artbook.

Since The Spirit and The Human takes inspiration from Chinese fiction with traditional setting and costumes, known as hanfu, the theoretical subject of this work it¿s about a cultural study of the most relevant historical Chinese fiction genre, wuxia. It covers the origin of the term, social issues, traditions and its high fantasy subgenre, or xianxia, ¿¿which makes up the aesthetic of this project. In addition, is addressed a brief analysis of the artbook as a published artwork, as well as commenting on its different trends and styles. As references that inspire the artistic production, we find the artist known as Velinxi, or the work of Ross Train, Nima (2020), for the quality of their style and the innovations that both of them introduce on their projects.

The artistic production consists of the first stages of pre-production for The Spirit and The Human, culminating in an art book. This book compiles the visual development material and concept art, and features sketches, illustrations, and narrative scenes with dialogues that contextualize the characters and introduce the plot.
