Development of course material on supply chain coordination for the University of Ghent

Abstract

[EN] The supply chain is the sequence of components that give businesses the structure they need to carry out product development. The primary goal is to reach the market by meeting customers’ needs. Collaboration and Sustainability are two essential concepts in the Supply Chain. The process of discovering and working on opportunities with specified business objectives between two or more partners in a way that raises the total value of the supply chain is known as Supply Chain Collaboration. A Sustainable Supply Chain addresses concerns such as water and energy consumption, pollution, worker labour conditions, biosecurity, marginalized populations, biodiversity, and land use to reduce negative environmental and social impacts. Sustainable supply chains also ensure that each component is efficient, follows best practices, and is transparent. Therefore, to introduce students to these two major issues and make them aware of them. In this work, the objective is to create a series of exercises for master’s students taking the Supply Chain course in the University of Ghent, which will allow them to learn about these topics and become conscious of their importance. The project will consist of different blocks to explain the various concepts clearly and concisely within both subjects. Each exercise will be accompanied by a theoretical explanation of the subject to be dealt with, followed by the statement of the exercise and its resolution. This will introduce students to the field of Collaboration and Sustainability within the Supply Chain. Furthermore, it not only promotes learning but also helps to be aware of the actual problems of pollution.

[ES] El objetivo de este proyecto es crear una serie de ejercicios y ejemplos sobre supply chain coordination and sustainable supply chain, para el curso de Operations and Supply Chain Management en la facultad de Economics and Business Administration de la universidad de Gante.

El Proyecto se centrará en la creación de ejercicios y ejemplos de distinta dificultad para apoyar el aprencizaje de los alumnos del máster Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Cada ejercicio irá acompañado de una explicación teórica del tema a tratar, seguida del enunciado del ejercicio y su resolución. Esto introducirá a los estudiantes en el campo de la colaboración y la sostenibilidad dentro de la cadena de suministro.
