[EN] This work is based on the conviction that heritage is an important advantage for small
rural towns, whose cultural assets, which still exist, are necessary for their renovation,
turning them into a vector of attraction that benefits the community. One of the goals of
this research about the Cultural Landscape is to learn to appreciate heritage, its value and
the possibilities of change in the visual and symbolic presentation of the inhabitants, men
and women, and their real role as agents who have made a historical contribution and
have been configuring the landscape by configuring the territory on purpose until today.
A circumstance that has promote the use of the territory and the rural environment. This
analysis makes explicit the importance of women in the construction and maintenance of
the landscape of the rural wine world and its evolution over time.
After Roman times, with numerous vestiges, until the settlement, from 1143, of the
Cluniac and Cistercian monks, in this area of the Duero, the cultivation of the vine and the
elaboration of the wine was settled forever. In the 16th century, with the boom in wine
production, “presses and wine cellar town” began to be built. They were built on communal
land and all the neighbors had to take care of their maintenance. Since the 19th century, the
cultivation of the vine began to decline and after various plagues, among others, phylloxera,
this crop suffered a significant setback. In 1950 the cooperatives were implanted and saved
the vineyard that was being uprooted. The creation of the “Denominación de Origen Ribera
del Duero”, in 1982, initiates modernity.
This work aims to analyze the Cultural Landscape of the Ribera del Duero in Burgos,
focusing on the architectural heritage related to wine history. A typological analysis of the
buildings destined for the elaboration and conservation of wine and their evolution from
their creation to the present day, as components of the wine-growing agricultural cultural
landscape, which was productive and identitary and has heritage value.
