[EN] The city of Sagunto is indivisibly associated with its Roman theatre and castle. The castle, located in the watchtower of the Dos de Mayo peak, has been for centuries a stronghold due to its strategic positioning of communications in the Mediterranean arc, with Aragon and because of its sea communications. The population centre is located in the north shelter of the fortress and facing the Palancia River, with more than two thousand years of history, it can be drawn as a mosaic of cultures and civilizations (Iberians, Romans, Carthaginians, Goths, Arabs) that they continue to this day. The coast had been almost unexplored until the last century, with the exception of the old Roman dock installed in the Grau Vell, of which there are hardly any vestiges, a fort and the small current nucleus.
On the 3rd of September 1900, a document was signed in Bilbao that was to completely change this relationship with the coastal plain. To take advantage of the privileged situation of Sagunto, the Compañia Minera de Sierra Menera (CMSM) was going to exploit the iron ore mines of Ojos Negros (TE) and Setiles (GU), with a railway to transport the mineral and a dock on the coast saguntine. It was the bet of the Basque investors, Ramón de la Sota and Eduardo Aznar, and the starting point of one of the most important factory cities in the Mediterranean.
Practically all the regions of Spain were introduced into the citizenship of the new nucleus at the dawn of work in the new Altos Hornos del Mediterraneo (AHM). Uninterrupted work until March 24, 1984, the date of the last casting in blast furnace No. 2, which preceded the traumatic industrial reconversion and dismantling of the old factory. The footprint left by the steel industry not only remained in the memory of the workers and their families, but also in some lands adjoining the urban area of the urban nucleus of the Port of Sagunto and its seaport, both grown indissolubly to the factory, and that they left a void pending recovery for citizens and re-naturalize the environment.
The final work is based on the development of the urban proposal at the urban planning level to integrate the rich industrial heritage, the new and existing uses, the growth of the maritime port and the creation of a new leisure space and exit to the sea for citizens. Within it, he develops a plot in which a building is projected to house the great existing historical documentation of the old factory, currently dispersed in different archives, associations and localities to function as the industrial historical archive of the city located between the two imposing structures of Blast Furnace No. 2 and the General Workshops Warehouse.
In solidarity, it is intended to close the open wound left by the erasure of the traces of the factory that gave birth to it and return the identity to Puerto de Sagunto.
