Técnica de la pintura de miniaturas sobre marfil, su conservación y restauración

Abstract

[ES] El presente trabajo final de máster (TFM) se centra en el estudio de la técnica y de la historia de la pintura sobre marfil. Se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica para obtener información acerca de esta tipología de obras destacando su apogeo en los siglos XVII, XVIII y, en especial, en el siglo XIX en países como Francia, Inglaterra o España. Se pueden encontrar piezas con diferentes temáticas como, por ejemplo, religiosa o paisajística, pero destacando los retratos. El soporte es una lámina de marfil muy fina y translúcida sobre la que se utilizan técnicas acuosas como la acuarela o el gouache. Además de la historia y de la revisión de los aspectos técnicos (elaboración del soporte, técnicas pictóricas y sistemas de enmarcado), se revisan también las principales patologías y técnicas de restauración empleadas actualmente. Por último, se exponen recomendaciones para la conservación preventiva de estas delicadas miniaturas, y futuras líneas de investigación.

[EN] The final master's project is focus on the study of the techniques and history of the painting on ivory. Bibliographic methods of investigation had been used to obtain information about those particular paintings and highlighting its apogee in the 17th, 18th centuries and, specially in the 19th century in countries such as France, England or Spain. There are pieces about different themes for instance religious or landscapes, however highlighting the portraits. The support is a very thin and translucent sheet of ivory on which aqueous techniques such as watercolor or gouache are used. Furthermore, in relation to the history and the investigation about different types of techniques (support development, pictorial techniques and framing system) the main pathologies and restoration techniques currently used are also reviewed. Lastly, recommendations are presented for the preventive conservation of these delicate miniature paintings, and for future lines of investigation.
