Transformando el barrio. Centro cultural y de artes escénicas en Morvedre

Abstract

[ES] Nos encontramos en el barrio de Morvedre, en el distrito de la Saidía de Valencia. Un barrio con una gran historia y una relevancia a lo largo del tiempo, que se ha ido perdiendo, convirtiéndose en una zona con un gran potencial y muchas oportunidades para volver a ser un barrio con un gran atractivo.

Morvedre es una zona de Valencia muy próxima al centro histórico, cuya calle principal, la Calle Sagunto, tiene una historia especial, formaba parte de la Via Augusta y conectaba el centro de Valencia con la ciudad de Sagunto. En el barrio encontramos varios hitos, como diversos edificios religiosos importantes, el abandonado mercado de San Pedro Nolasco que solía ser el centro del barrio, la estación de Pont de Fusta o diversas muestras de viviendas protegidas construidas en el 1900. Por lo general se trata de un barrio muy diverso, urbanistica y socialmente. El espacio urbano, presenta muchas barreras y límites, el vehículo tiene una prioridad total sobre el peatón, y a pesar de situarse cerca de importantes parques valencianos, destaca la falta de vegetación y espacios verdes. La sociedad que reside en Morvedre tiende a ser envejecida, aunque es un barrio muy residencial, acoje a una gran diversidad de culturas y situaciones económicas. Llama la atención la tradición artística del barrio, ya que en él vivieron grandes artistas como Concha Piquer o Nino Bravo, y hoy en día seguimos viendo muchos locales dedicados a esto, como escuelas de musica, compañías de teatro...

El objetivo principal del proyecto propuesto es crear un lugar por y para las personas, un nuevo núcleo social para el barrio, en el que la gente pueda relacionarse, cooperar y conectar, sin barreras generacionales o sociales y en un espacio agradable. Utilizando la oportunidad de la tradición artística, se crea un complejo en el que el arte se convierta en un punto de unión. Se desarrolla el proyecto de un edificio de uso mixto, conformado por tres piezas dedicadas a la cultura, el arte y el aprendizaje, una cuarta pieza dedicada a una residencia temporal y la rehabilitación de un bloque de viviendas, mejorando las condiciones actuales. Adquiere gran relevancia la vegetación, que envuelve al complejo y crea un oasis dentro de la ciudad caótica. El espacio público se posiciona como una quinta pieza en la que se desarrolla un espacio urbano que enlaza los edificios, extendiéndose hasta el interior de los mismos, y generando espacios flexibles, versátiles y compartidos.

[EN] We are located in the neighborhood of Morvedre, in the Saidía district of Valencia. A neighborhood with a great history and relevance over time, which has been lost, becoming an area with great potential and many opportunities to return to be a neighborhood with a great attraction.

Morvedre is an area of Valencia very close to the historic center, whose main street, Sagunto Street, has a special history, it was part of the Via Augusta and connected the center of Valencia with the city of Sagunto. In the neighborhood we find different landmarks, such as several important religious buildings, the abandoned San Pedro Nolasco market that used to be the center of the neighborhood, the Pont de Fusta station or various examples of social housing built in the 1900s. In general, it is a very diverse neighborhood, urbanistically and socially. The urban space presents many barriers and limits, the vehicle has a total priority over the pedestrian, and despite being located near important Valencian parks, there is a lack of vegetation and green spaces. The society that resides in Morvedre tends to be aged, although it is a very residential neighborhood, it welcomes a great diversity of cultures and economic situations. The artistic tradition of the neighborhood is striking, since great artists such as Concha Piquer or Nino Bravo lived in it, and today we still see many locals dedicated to this, such as music schools, theater companies...

The main objective of the proposed project is to create a place by and for people, a new social nucleus for the neighborhood, where people can relate, cooperate and connect, without generational or social barriers and in a pleasant space. Using the opportunity of the artistic tradition, a complex is created in which art becomes a point of union. The project develops a mixed-use building, consisting of three pieces dedicated to culture, art and learning, a fourth piece dedicated to a temporary residence and the rehabilitation of a block of apartments, improving the current conditions. The vegetation becomes very important, enveloping the complex and creating an oasis within the chaotic city. The public space is positioned as a fifth piece in which an urban space is developed that links the buildings, extending into their interiors, and generating flexible, versatile and shared spaces.
