Dependence of trabecular bone score with the degree of vertebral body compression.

Abstract

[ES] La puntuación del hueso trabecular representa la desviación estándar de la distribución de la densidad mineral ósea del área (DMO) obtenida de forma rutinaria en la clínica mediante absorciometría de rayos X de energía dual. Varios análisis de cohortes demostraron una relación entre el valor de la puntuación del hueso trabecular y el riesgo de fracturas posteriores. Los estudios previos tanto en el elemento de volumen trabecular como en el nivel del cuerpo vertebral completo no pudieron establecer de manera consistente un vínculo entre la puntuación del hueso trabecular y los parámetros arquitectónicos. Siguiendo los hallazgos de Mirzaali et al. en hueso trabecular porcino, planteamos la hipótesis de que la puntuación del hueso trabecular detecta variaciones de DMO relacionadas con la densificación ósea asociada con fracturas vertebrales parciales. Dado que una fractura previa es el principal factor de riesgo para fracturas posteriores, el éxito clínico de la puntuación del hueso trabecular recibiría una explicación plausible.

Several cohort analyses demonstrated a relationship between the value of TBS and the risk of subsequent fractures. Previous studies at both the trabecular volume element and whole vertebral body level could not consistently establish a link between TBS and architectural parameters. Following the findings of Mirzaali et al. on porcine trabecular bone, we hypothesize that TBS detects BMD variations related to the bone densification associated with partial vertebral fractures. Since a previous fracture is the major risk factor for subsequent fractures, the clinical success of TBS would receive a plausible explanation.
