Abstract

[EN] The renovation and restoration project seeks to adapt the complex (Ed. Rui Barbosa and Joaquim Nabuco) to its new use - a contemporary art centre that brings together exhibition spaces, rooms for theoretical and practical courses and a University Theatre - and has the central objective of affirming the public character that has historically marked this USP heritage site. The proposal includes the restoration of the main façades, keeping the volumes of the Rui Barbosa and Joaquim Nabuco buildings intact, but proposes a new relationship between the complex and the city. The free space between the two buildings acquires the dimension of a public space, forming a small square. At street level, this square is the natural widening of the pavement and defines a welcoming access to the complex. At the lower level, a tree-lined courtyard connects the two buildings, creating an open-air performance space for the theatre. The project's contribution to the memory of the academic, cultural and political movement that had its headquarters on Maria Antônia Street is to enhance the open spaces, offering a generous link between the complex and the city.

[ES] El proyecto de renovación y restauración busca adecuar el conjunto (Ed. Rui Barbosa y Joaquín Nabuco) a su nuevo uso un núcleo de arte contemporáneo que reúne espacios expositivos, salas de cursos teóricos y prácticos y un Teatro Universitario y tiene como objetivo central afirmar el carácter público que ha marcado históricamente este patrimonio de la USP. La propuesta incluye la restauración de las fachadas principales, conservando intactos los volúmenes de los edificios Rui Barbosa y Joaquim Nabuco, pero propone una nueva relación entre el conjunto y la ciudad. El espacio libre entre los dos edificios adquiere la dimensión de espacio público formando una pequeña plaza. Al nivel de la calle, esta plaza es el ensanchamiento natural de la vereda y define un acogedor acceso al conjunto. En el nivel inferior, un patio arbolado conecta los dos edificios creando un lugar de actuación al aire libre para el teatro. Recalificar los espacios libres, ofreciendo un vínculo generoso entre el conjunto y la ciudad, es la contribución del proyecto a la memoria del movimiento académico, cultural y político que tuvo su sede en la calle Maria Antônia.
