ESTUDI TÈCNIC I INTERVENCIÓ DE LA MÀQUINA D ESCRIURE SMITH PREMIER Nº 10 DEL MUSEU D INFORMÀTICA DE LA UPV

Abstract

[ES] El present Treball Final de Grau comprén un estudi tècnic i de l¿estat de conservació de la màquina d¿escriure Smith Premier nº 10, que forma part de la col·lecció del Museu d´Informàtica de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). Per dur-ho a terme, el treball inclou una prèvia contextualització del dispositiu mecànic, que comprén una aproximació històrica a l´època en la qual va ser creada; una anàlisi dels elements que la constitueixen, de gran diversitat material; i un estudi del mecanisme i les peces que permetien fer ús de la peça per a l´escriptura. Tot aquest examen ajuda a identificar els deterioraments que presenta l´objecte i les causes que els van originar. La màquina d´escriure ha pogut ser intervinguda en el taller de conservació de l´Àrea de Fons d´Art i Patrimoni de la Universitat Politècnica de València. Aquesta actuació s´ha fonamentat, especialment, en implementar un procés de neteja de la brutícia superficial que fora conforme als materials constitutius del dispositiu, així com establir una proposta de conservació preventiva que s´adeqüe a l´espai expositiu que ocupa en el Museu d´Informàtica de la UPV.

[EN] This Final Degree Project includes a technical and state of conservation study of the Smith Premier Typewriter nº 10, which is part of the collection of the Computer Museum of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

In order to properly develop it, this study includes a previous contextualization of the mechanical device, in wich are: a historical timeline to the time in which it was created; an analysis of the elements that constitute it, which are of great material diversity; and the study of the mechanism and the parts that allowed the operation of the piece for writing. This entire study helps to identify the elements of degradation of this piece and the causes that had originated.

It has been possible to restore he typewriter at the UPV Heritage and Art Collection Office conservation workshop. To carry this out, the action was based on cleaning the surface dirt, in accordance with the constituent materials of the piece, and the establishment of a preventive conservation proposal, adapted to the exhibition space in the UPV Computer Museum.
