Rompiendo el Límite: Un Refugio Espiritual en las Escuelas San José

Abstract

[ES] El proyecto se enfoca en la construcción de un retiro de espiritualidad situado en la zona oeste de las Escuelas Profesionales de San José de Valencia. La iniciativa surge debido a la necesidad de renaturalizar y ampliar el suelo permeable en el colegio y sus alrededores, así como de conectar la institución educativa con el entorno urbano y la ciudad. El retiro se construirá en la zona más olvidada del colegio, detrás de las gradas que dan al campo de fútbol y la pista de atletismo. Consistirá en un edificio que cuenta con una planta baja semienterrada y tres volúmenes aparentemente independientes en la planta primera y segunda. Se ha prestado especial atención a la frontera entre el colegio y la ciudad para crear un espacio que pueda funcionar tanto para el programa doméstico como para actividades culturales y permitir una relación más cercana entre lo público (ciudad) y lo privado (colegio). El edificio cuenta con un núcleo central que alberga las comunicaciones principales del conjunto y zonas de servicio, dejando libre el resto de los espacios para desarrollar el programa. Este núcleo parte inicialmente de una escalera, un ascensor y dos baños, que se han situado en los tres puntos de intersección donde se produce el desnivel. Una vez situados, se han ido variando en función de las necesidades de cada zona. Este desnivel ha generado tanto una necesidad material como programática llevando a situar el uso doméstico destinado a la convivencia, que cuenta con dormitorios individuales y colectivos (Planta Primera) y zonas comunes (Planta Baja). Asimismo se produce una doble altura tanto en el forjado de planta baja como en el de primera planta dotando al uso doméstico de más privacidad y generando una transición menos abrupta entre lo público y lo privado. Los usos públicos como son aulas deportivas relacionados con el bienestar, capilla, aulas de catequesis (situadas en Planta Baja), zona de exposiciones, restaurante (Planta Primera) y talleres artísticos (Planta Segunda) estarán situados en la zona oeste encontrándose más accesibles para la ciudad. Los espacios del proyecto destinados a la domesticidad se encuentran enterrados 0,5 m respecto de la cota 23,1 m sobre el nivel del mar para generar una topografía alrededor que dote de más intimidad y espacios exteriores comunes más diversos. Asimismo, se ha modificado el límite del colegio para darle un carácter más dinámico y dotar de más terreno a la ciudad. En resumen, el retiro de espiritualidad proyectado busca unir al colegio con la ciudad y por ello se ha decidido intervenir en el límite de ambos viendo el desnivel como una oportunidad de conexión en lugar de un elemento limitador como actualmente se concibe.

[EN] The project focuses on the construction of a spirituality retreat located in the western area of the San José Professional Schools in Valencia. The initiative arises from the need to create more green spaces and expand the permeable soil in the school and its surroundings, as well as to connect the educational institution with the urban environment and the city. The retreat will be built in the most forgotten area of the school, behind the stands that face the football field and the athletics track. It will consist of a building with a semi-buried ground floor and three apparently independent volumes on the first and second floors. Special attention has been paid to the border between the school and the city to create a space that can function both for the domestic program and for cultural activities, and allow for a closer relationship between the public (city) and the private (school). The building has a central core that houses the main communications of the complex and service areas, leaving the rest of the spaces free to develop the program. This core initially starts from a staircase, an elevator, and two bathrooms, which have been located at the three points of intersection where the slope occurs. Once located, they have been varied according to the needs of each area. This slope has generated both a material and programmatic need, leading to the location of the domestic use intended for coexistence, which includes individual and collective bedrooms (first floor) and common areas (ground floor). Likewise, a double height is produced both in the ground floor and the first floor slab, giving the domestic use more privacy and generating a less abrupt transition between the public and the private. Public uses such as sports classrooms related to wellness, chapel, catechesis classrooms (located on the ground floor), exhibition area, restaurant (first floor), and artistic workshops (second floor) will be located in the western area, being more accessible for the city. The project spaces destined for domesticity are buried 0.5 m with respect to the level of 23.1 m above sea level to generate a topography around it that provides more privacy and more diverse common outdoor spaces. Likewise, the school boundary has been modified to give it a more dynamic character and provide more land to the city. In summary, the projected spirituality retreat seeks to unite the school with the city, and therefore it has been decided to intervene at the border of both, seeing the slope as an opportunity for connection instead of a limiting element as it is currently conceived.
