La quirografía en el Libro-Arte latinoamericano: explorando la escritura como expresión artística

Abstract

[EN] Within the Latin American book arts, chirography, or writing as an artistic manifestation in itself, plays a fundamental role. It covers a wide range of techniques, styles and approaches used by artists to explore writing as a means of visual expression. Contrary to conventional writing, chirography transcends its communicative function to become an autonomous artistic manifestation. This article aims to explore the role of chirography in Latin American book arts from various perspectives. Historical background of this form of expression will be analyzed, highlighting the influences of artistic and literary movements such as surrealism, magical realism and the Latin American boom. Subsequently, some techniques and approaches used by artists who integrate chirography in book arts will be examined. Including ornamental calligraphy, illustrated letters, gestural writing, relief writing and other techniques that bring variety and originality to the medium and thematic content of the work.

[ES] Dentro del Libro-Arte latinoamericano, la quirografía, o la escritura como una manifestación artística en sí misma, juega un papel fundamental. Abarca un amplio abanico de técnicas, estilos y enfoques utilizados por artistas para explorar la escritura como medio de expresión visual. En contraposición a la escritura convencional, la quirografía trasciende su función comunicativa para convertirse en una manifestación artística autónoma. Este artículo tiene como objetivo explorar el papel de la quirografía en el Libro-Arte latinoamericano desde diversas perspectivas. Se analizarán antecedentes históricos de esta forma de expresión, destacando las influencias de movimientos artísticos y literarios como el surrealismo, el realismo mágico y el boom latinoamericano. Posteriormente, se examinarán algunas técnicas y enfoques utilizados por los artistas que integran quirografía en el Libro-Arte. Incluyendo la caligrafía ornamental, letras ilustradas, escritura gestual, escritura en relieve y otras técnicas que aportan variedad y originalidad al medio y al contenido temático de la obra.
