Escribiendo sobre lo borrado: retrospectiva y prospectiva de los edificios modernos en el Centro Histórico de Quito

Abstract

[ES] La demolición del edificio del Registro Civil y el edificio de la Direc ción Provincial de Salud formaron parte del Plan de Revitalización del Centro Histórico de Quito en junio de 2012. El plan tenía como objetivo dotar al Centro Histórico con una infraestructura adecuada, tomando en cuenta que los edificios modernos antes mencionados no eran adecuados al carácter patrimonial del Centro Histórico de Quito (CHQ). Bajo esta premisa, la introducción de arquitectura mo derna en el Centro Histórico es una adición a la trama urbana que se encuentra en riesgo. La pregunta por el pasado y el futuro de los edificios en situación de obsolescencia en un entorno colonial es un tema importante en el contexto de aprovechar lo existente como una oportunidad. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo rescatar conceptos arquitectónicos que han sido olvidados en la memoria de la ciudad, a través de la puesta en valor de episodios históricos. Estos conceptos olvidados tienen la capacidad de aportar valores culturales y enmendar el presente a través del estudio del pasado en miras de una prospectiva de la arquitectura moderna.

[EN] The demolition of the Civil Registry building and the Provincial Heal th Directorate building were part of the Revitalization Plan of the Historic Center of Quito in 2012. The plan proposed providing an adequate infrastructure system to the Historic Center of Quito, fo llowing the concept that the mentioned buildings are inadequate to the heritage character. Under this premise, the modern architecture implemented in the Historic Center of Quito is an addition to the ur ban fabric that is at risk. In this way, the question about the past and future of buildings in a situation of obsolescence in a colonial context is a current topic regarding the idea of what exists as an opportunity. This work seeks architectural concepts that have been forgotten in the memory of the city through the enhancement of historical situa tions. These forgotten concepts have the capacity to add cultural va lues and redeem the present through the study of the past in view of a prospective of modern architecture in the colonial center of Quito.
