Il castello di San Pio delle Camere

[EN] The castle of San Pio delle Camere is located on a ridge overlooking the plateau of Navelli, in the Abruzzo Apennines. The fortification has a roughly triangular shape, with a pentagonal tower at the top and two rectangular towers on either side. The study, starting from the documentary evidence and the results of an archaeological excavation of 2007, through an architectural survey made ad hoc, analyzes the ruins from a metrological, proportional and constructive point of view and proposes a dating of the construction between the end of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century. This dating, da un lato esclude l’ipotesi di preesistenze, confermando quella di un impianto unitario, dall’altro evidenzia un fenomeno a phenomenon of late fortification, which leads to rereading the history of the territory and to reconsider the chronology of its transformations.
