MACOSA cultural center: proposal of equipment and urban restructuring in La Creu Coberta neighbourhood.

Abstract

[ES] El proyecto busca transformar y revitalizar el entorno de la antigua fábrica de trenes MACOSA, conectando los barrios de la Creu Coberta y Malilla, que han estado separados históricamente por las vías del tren. Con el soterramiento de estas vías, ya en proceso, se abre la oportunidad de crear nuevas sinergias entre ambos barrios y replantear el modelo de ciudad existente.

En el terreno de la antigua fábrica, se propone la construcción de un nuevo equipamiento cultural con la ambición de convertirse en un polo de atracción para toda la ciudad, ofreciendo una amplia gama de contenidos culturales y actividades que dinamizarán la vida comunitaria. El nuevo centro cultural proporcionará nuevos espacios donde se podrán desarrollar diversas actividades de carácter cultural, lúdico y formativo. Este equipamiento no solo servirá a los residentes del barrio, sino que también será un punto de referencia en el futuro eje verde que conectará el Parque Central con el nuevo cauce del Turia, integrándose en esta futura red de espacios verdes y paseos peatonales.

El diseño del nuevo equipamiento buscará dialogar con la nave preexistente de la antigua fábrica, realzando su valor histórico y arquitectónico, y reafirmando a la vez su carácter y lenguaje contemporáneo. Este diálogo entre lo nuevo y lo antiguo no solo preservará la memoria industrial de la zona, sino que también aportará un carácter único y distintivo al proyecto, atrayendo a visitantes y residentes por igual.

El proyecto de re-ordenación urbana no solo se centra en la mejora de infraestructuras y la creación de nuevos espacios, sino que también tiene como objetivo fortalecer la cohesión social, revitalizar el entorno urbano, potenciar el sentido de comunidad de la zona y enriquecer la oferta cultural de la ciudad, convirtiéndose en un motor de desarrollo y un símbolo de la integración y transformación positiva de estos barrios.

[EN] The project aims to transform and revitalize the area around the old MACOSA train factory, connecting the neighborhoods of Creu Coberta and Malilla, which have historically been separated by the train tracks. With the burying of these tracks already underway, the opportunity arises to create new synergies between the two neighborhoods and to rethink the existing city model.

On the grounds of the old factory, the construction of a new cultural facility is proposed, with the ambition of becoming a hub of attraction for the entire city, offering a wide range of cultural content and activities that will energize community life. The new cultural center will provide new spaces where various cultural, recreational, and educational activities can be developed. This facility will not only serve the neighborhood residents but will also be a reference point in the future green axis that will connect the Central Park with the new Turia riverbed, integrating into this future network of green spaces and pedestrian walkways.

The design of the new facility will seek to dialogue with the pre-existing building of the old factory, enhancing its historical and architectural value while simultaneously reaffirming its contemporary character and language. This dialogue between the new and the old will not only preserve the industrial memory of the area but will also bring a unique and distinctive character to the project, attracting visitors and residents alike.

The urban reorganization project not only focuses on improving infrastructure and creating new spaces but also aims to strengthen social cohesion, revitalize the urban environment, enhance the sense of community in the area, and enrich the city's cultural offerings, becoming a driving force for development and a symbol of the positive integration and transformation of these neighborhoods.
