"Yes, We're Taping": Mapeando los Inicios del Videoarte en España (1960-1980).

Abstract

[EN] The article aims to review the beginnings of Spanish video art addressing to the main exhibition catalogues, reviews and monographs published in the period between 1960 and 1980. These twenty years are a period that has until now been little studied in the genealogies of video art in the European context, and specifically in that produced in Spain or by Spanish artists. In the same way, the difficulty of accessing the works produced in these years, many of them already disappeared, puts on the table the "emergency" of their study. Our aim is, therefore, to contribute to a line of research that allows to locate these pioneering experiences, to investigate their processes in greater depth and even to make it possible to recover them in the future. To this end, this research takes a twofold approach. Firstly, a chronological one, situating the works precisely in their historical contexts, and secondly, a problematicconceptual approach, proposing three thematic paths (precariousness, experimentation and activism) that encompass the contents outlined by these works as a whole.
