Constructions of Nomadic Subjectivities in Filmic Spaces: case of Moving On (2019)

[EN] This is a study to rethink the nomadic subjectivity theory by contemporary feminist philosopher Rosi Braidotti in the fields of architectural design thinking and spatial practices. Her theory offers an intellectual space where dichotomies such as creative-critical and imaginary-real can be re-defined in superposition and simultaneity. Bringing together the idea of nomadism and the spatial practices of dwelling can provide new questions and conceptualizations, where architectural thinking can be reproduced in motion. Thanks to the already acknowledged structural similarities between architecture and film, and cinema's own organic relationship to motion, contemplating over the spatial practices within the filmic space offers a fruitful site of study. To do so, the study follows with a collaboration with the present subjectivities in the filmic space. An independent South-Korean movie “Moving On” (2019) will be explored as the site of study for this paper. The reading of the movie is a construction of nomadic subjectivity while characters and subjectivities in relation to space are being developed. The nomadic subjectivity is being generated through various layers; the thematic existence of the movement in the plot; the superposition of present subjects of director, protagonist, and researcher; the multiplication of various architectural theories with spatial readings of movies; and finally, the autobiographical layer.
