LOS RETRATOS DE CARMEN GAUDIN

Abstract

[EN] Among drawing masters of all times Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec clearly stands out. His sketches, posters, drawings and paintings on cardboard still keep open mouthed all those who deals with graphic art. This brief essay is about the portrait which appears so prominet in Lautrec¿s work, from the deep study of the ten paintings he made of his favourite model Carmen Gaudin. We offer a new approach about the datation of these portraits and a possible solution to the fact of her apparent shyness to show her whole face.

[ES] Entre los maestros de dibujo de todos los tiempos, Henri deToulouse-Lautrec ocupa un lugar destacado. Sus dibujos, carteles, bocetos in situ y pinturas sobre cartón siguen causando la admiración de todos los que tratan del arte gráfico. Este breve ensayo se ocupa del retrato, tema central en la obra de Lautrec, apartir del análisis de diez pinturas que realizó de su modelo preferida, la joven Carmen Gaudin. Se ofrece una hipótesis sobre la fecha de ejecución de estas obras y una explicación plausible sobre la resistencia de la modelo por mostrar su rostro.
