Wireless Network with PEAP/MS-CHAPv2 and RADIUS Authentication

Abstract

Wireless communications have experienced a dramatic increase in the last few years, with an easy and efficient solution to provide connectivity without cables, and have given mobility and flexibility for the interconnection of computers, but without forgetting security aspects. Finding out which problems and solutions can come up with security in wireless networks in a business background was the target of this project. The study was done in a free software environment. Using Linux as the platform of the study, the wireless network implemented provided LAN connectivity with authentication, using an access point and a RADIUS server running under Linux Fedora Core 5. The clients were Windows-based running specific proprietary supplicant Cisco software. This project showed how to implement and deploy a security-based wireless network using existing free software. The theoretical base, the installation and the configuration of the software, as well as the testing and analyzing phase, were covered in this project.
