Tras las huellas de un patio clásico. Estudios previos del palau-castell de Betxí

Abstract

El Palau-Castell de Betxí, de origen medieval, cuenta con dos piezas entre las mejores de la arquitectura renacentista valenciana: su portada y su patio. Tras décadas de impropiedades y abandono, el ayuntamiento adquirió la titularidad del monumento con el propósito de recuperarlo para el pueblo. Primero garantizó la protección, solicitando su declaración como BIC y promoviendo un Plan Especial. Luego nos encomendó la labor de conocer mejor su arquitectura mediante la elaboración de los Estudios Previos, de cuya metódica y científica ejecución damos noticia en este artículo. El trabajo se completa con la colaboración del equipo de historiadores-arqueólogos formado por Lourdes Tamborero Capilla y Rafael Martínez Porral, contratados por el Ayuntamiento para tal fin.

The Palau-Castell de Betxí, of medieval origin, includes two structures that are among the best examples of the Valencian Renaissance architecture: the portal and the courtyard. After decades of inappropriateness and abandonment, the city council acquired the ownership of the monument with the proposal to restore it for the town. Firstly, its protection was guaranteed with applying for the status of a BIC and with the proposal of a special plan. Afterwards the task of understanding its architecture better by the elaboration of preliminary studies was ensured. The task's methodical and scientific contents are reflected in this article. The work is completed with the collaboration of a team of historians-archaeologists formed by Lourdes Tamborero Capilla and Rafael Martínez Porral, employed for this purpose by the city council.
