dc.description.abstract [EN] Nowadays water power is an important energy supply resource. Hydroelectric plants, by using hydraulic turbines, allow converting water energy into electricity. These turbines are made of several components, but the most important are: the rotor, the main shaft and the hydraulic turbine. In this particularly case a Francis turbine will be employed. In order to guarantee these components work properly, two types of hydrodynamic oil film bearings will be required. A thrust and a guide bearings. This project has a clear objective, which involves the feasibility study and design of hydrodynamics thrust and guide bearings in a large vertical rotating machine, such as Francis turbine in a hydroelectric power plant in UK. The English company gave its main components specifications and the type of turbine which had to be used, in this case a Francis turbine. According to the results of this study case, the bearing design process will be developed using the ESDU standards. The final design will be completed with surface finish recommendations, limits and fits, engineering drawings and some indications for a proper assembly. According to the feasibility study results, different design recommendations will be exposed and explained. Finally, this project is completed by means of a research study based on seeing the feasibility of the standards used, in cases where the technical specifications are huge, for the design of a guide and thrust bearings. es_ES
