The aim of this research is to generate Rossby waves in the laboratory to small scale and to study the mechanism of them formation. Therefore, it pretends to observe the theory described by Rossby through the generation of waves in the experiment.
These waves are important because they characterize the distribution of the temperature in the ocean and the atmosphere.
For this reason we are going to study different cases to verificate that theory, by modifying the plane tilt or rotation speed.
The numerical study is established by formulas of different experiments and studies of such waves, in which we consider the roudness of the Earth, the Coriolis component or the potencial vorticity, besides other parameters like the latitude (ß plane) or fluid depth.
The experimental part will be performed on a rotating table on which we will place a PVC tank with water. In this tank we simulate the rotation of the Earth and latitude variation. The waves will be observed by the production of ice cubes with colourings. They allow the display of these waves.
