Practical development and research on the level of security in smartphones

Abstract

This thesis describes various security issues in Smartphones and the security mechanisms used by them. It discusses about vulnerabilities and symptoms presented in different operating systems, with special emphasis on Android System, which it presents a practical development as a descriptive example of the level of security for this research. For this investigation, different platforms are analyzed when a Smartphone is infected with malicious software and trends to combat such threats. The relevant information for this study came from statistical reports made of different companies, Internet sources, software documentation and open literature. Among the platforms studied at the beginning of this thesis, within their vulnerabilities, the malware is the main threat for Android System, according to the reports and news used for this research. Therefore, the most common tools and methods are analyzed to know about how to combat such problems, emphasizing with a practical development on Android, which provides information about malware installed using mobile applications. With this information, methods of development and distribution are found, consequently, the level of security in Smartphones; it can be regarded as the same software problem that a computer could have it, because many people are unaware that having a smart phone, it is like having a computer in hand.
