| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] This project concerns the design and construction of a test bench for artificial femurs. Starting from an existing machine, assemblies and components have been identified in order to develop a new system of tools capable of allowing compression testing on artificial femurs for the evaluation of different femoral fracture fixation systems. Thus, the process and methodology is based on a literature review of documentation related to composition and mechanical behavior of bone tissue and motion characteristics in the knee joint, besides articles reporting tests and trials in artificial bones, focusing attention on those referred to the compressive strength of the fixation systems in distal femoral fractures, since this has been a controversial topic that has recently evolved into techniques for indirect reduction and minimal surgical invasion. First it was necessary to perform a preliminary analysis of the technical and structural characteristics of the machine in order to design the new tool system making none or minimal changes in the structure of the primary machine. Consequently, it all has been designed using a CAD software, trying to simulate the adduction and abduction movements of the knee joint to allow a degree of rotation in the lower support. Secondly, sensors have been selected to record the degree of loading and the existing rotation in the support base, being required, then, the data acquisition system and graphical interface configuration, so that the tests can be performed. Subsequently, a fixation system, consisting on a silicone die, has been designed to perform the cutting of test specimens in an identical procedure, ensuring repeatability and degree of traceability in the trials. Finally, we proceeded to the manufacture of parts and assembly of the test bench. | es_ES |
