dc.description.abstract Spectral analysis of turbulent uxes and new stresses that appear in the variable-density ltered Navier- Stokes equations has been carried out following an analogous procedure to the one used in traditional turbulence theory to study the Reynolds stress tensor and the transport of passive scalars. The existing literature concerning spectral analysis of variable-density ows has been reviewed in order to broaden the theoretical background required to formulate more accurate LES closures for variable-density ows. Finally, a DNS of a shear layer with heat release has been studied to quantify the spectral properties of the ow in the presence of a mean density variation. es_ES
