Abstract

[EN] Art and medicine have been linked since ancient times. Greek, Egyptian and Roman prints and sculptures can be seen not only as works of incalculable artistic value, but also as detailed anatomy studies. The drawing lets us visualize complex theoretical concepts and it is a fundamental teaching tool. In my doctoral thesis, the relationship between dentistry and speech is analyzed through an epidemiological study of children between five and seven years of age. Summarizing, different oral malformations correspond to certain phonetic limitations. Much of this research would be impossible without some advanced artistic basis. In this work we present an elaborate study of the theoretical framework in the duality between art and medicine. The historical and artistic heritage allows us to relate the facial aesthetic and orthodontics features. Moreover, we discuss the concept of symmetry and the golden ratio in the human body as well as the different ways to classify a bad dental alignment according by Angle. After that, we present a picture detailed study of the facial muscles, the articulation of phonemes, the swallowing for both the newborn and the adult and the classification of different dental alignments. Consequently, we can see, for example, that an incorrect swallowing causes poor dental alignment.

[ES] El dibujo como herramienta pedagógica . Estas ilustraciones forman parte de la explicación visual de un trabajo de doctorado que trata la relación que existe entre la Odontología y Logopedia. Estas ilustraciones ayudan a clarificar conceptos teóricos y a poder visualizar ideas. Se hace un estudio en imágenes sobre la musculatura facial, la articulación de los fonemas, la deglución desde el recién nacido hasta la edad adulta, los problemas que ocasiona y que pueden repercutir sobre la formación estética del rostro. Historia del concepto de belleza en la estética facial y cómo repercuten las anomalías de la oclusión dental en el rostro humano.
