Puesta en valor de la conservación preventiva en imágenes devocionales

Abstract

[EN] In the last few years, the field of preventive conservation has experienced a huge boost, becoming more and more frequent its implementation within museum institutions, libraries and public record offices. Nevertheless, the important and plentiful heritage guarded in the religious buildings is well behind the strategies of preventive conservation used in the rest of cultural assets. In order to promote the implementation of measures to prevent deterioration and reduce restoration interventions, this paper shows the complex overview involving the preservation of devotional images. There are some aspects hindering the adoption of preventive actions in religious assets. On one hand, these works have a historical and artistic value, which has to be added to its sacramental function, linked to worship and tradition. Generally, these traditions are incompatible with universally accepted conservation methodologies. Besides, the majority of the churches protecting and keeping the assets are historical buildings where it might be difficult to control environmental conditions. In this research, the focus is set on the analysis of the main features defining these works, and the factors that may have an effect on them, by reasons of place or use. In addition, there is a practical example study carried out in the church of Ntra. Sra. De Gracia (Córdoba), where all the climatic, light and security conditions of the church are considered to understand how they might affect on the works. After this research, the main goal is to compile a preventive conservation guideline that might be useful to the people in charge of this kind of works. Finally, it is stated the need of an interdisciplinary team to raise awareness on the topic and involve communication and collaboration between conservation professionals, religious authorities, members of religious brotherhoods and the people who take care of this precious heritage. It is the only way to assure its ideal conservation for future generations.

[ES] En los últimos años el campo de la conservación preventiva ha experimentado un notable auge, siendo cada vez más frecuente su implantación en instituciones museísticas, archivos y bibliotecas. Sin embargo, el numeroso e importante patrimonio que se custodia en los recintos religiosos ha ido a la zaga de las estrategias de conservación preventiva aplicadas al resto de bienes culturales. Con el objetivo de potenciar la implantación de medidas que posibiliten la prevención del deterioro y la reducción de intervenciones restaurativas, el presente trabajo aborda el complejo panorama que engloba la preservación de imágenes devocionales. Son varios los aspectos que obstaculizan la adopción de actuaciones preventivas en bienes religiosos. Por un lado, estas obras poseen además de un valor histórico-artístico, una función sacra vinculada a cultos y tradiciones que por lo general son incompatibles con las metodologías de conservación universalmente aceptadas. Además, una gran parte de los templos que tutelan estos bienes son edificios históricos en los cuales resulta difícil el control de las condiciones ambientales. Este estudio pretende analizar las características principales que definen a estas obras, además de los factores por los que pueden verse afectadas, tanto por su ubicación como por su uso. Asimismo se recoge un ejemplo práctico realizado en la Iglesia de Ntra. Sra. De Gracia (Córdoba) en el cuál se examinan las condiciones climáticas, lumínicas y de seguridad del templo para entender de qué modo puede influir en las obras. Con todo ello, el fin es recopilar una serie de pautas de conservación preventiva que puedan servir a las personas responsables de estos bienes. Por último se pone de manifiesto la necesidad de un equipo interdisciplinar que favorezca la concienciación e implique la comunicación y colaboración entre profesionales de la conservación y las autoridades religiosas, los cofrades y las personas que velan por este valioso patrimonio. Solo así podrá garantizarse su buena conservación a las generaciones venideras
