[EN] Nowadays, the globalization has allowed most industries have different offices
throughout the world. Some current manufacturing companies are also included in this
kind of companies who have managed sharing their facilities. Furthermore these
companies may have hundreds of different manufacturers. Therefore, large amounts
of information must be transferred between different facilities and between diverse
machines. Currently the information can be exchanged easily through global networks,
thanks to digital communication standards.
This data exchange must be made between product setting and different
computer systems associated with the entire life cycle of this, including the design,
manufacture, use, maintenance and disposal.
The product information generated all this process long can be used for different
purposes. In this case multiple computer systems are needed, even some of these may
be located in different organizations and places.
To obtain the distribution of information, the companies must be able to
represent the product data in an interpretable manner, and they should retain this
information correctly, most of all when exchanges occur between different systems.
The overall goal of the standard used must be to provide a good way to describe
all the product data throughout its life cycle, independent of the particular system
used to create it. The nature of this description makes it suitable not only for neutral
data exchange, but also for the implementation and sharing of database product and
its presentation. The ultimate aim is create a database of information about integrated
product which is accessible and useful for all resources required to produce a product
along their life cycle.
Over this document the different standards used for the purpose described will
be discussed. The ISO 6983 standard, which is used in the most manufacturing
companies; the ISO 10303, also known as STEP, it is an international standard for
information representation and exchange of industrial products. And ISO 14649 that is
an extension of STEP created to cover information related product with CNC.
