--Description (details to allow the applicants understand the fundamental idea of the project and the expected results/outcome of the project): Candidates skilled on programming and software development are recruited to design, test and evaluate a prototype of a comprehensive monitoring platform based on ubiquitous sensing. ITACA-SABIEN research group will provide the technology, framework and supervision to enhance and improve the student applied skills in the field of software and hardware integration. The main aim of the project is to connect at least five different sensors using the Smart Home Arduino Kit though BT and web services (logical connections) to a web-dashboard and a smartwatch to provide meaningful information from the environment to users. As an evaluation demonstrator, the candidate has to integrate the sensors and be able to follow-up a whole week in the lab settings.
--Keywords: Arduino, AAL, sensors, Web Services, SOAP, REST, Software development, Software architectures, .Net/J2EE, USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi
--Requirements (the required skills/knowledge from the applicants): Software development on Object Oriented Programming and Arduino development
--application area (choose from: phone apps, computer software, multimedia, optical, wireless, antenna, network, hardware): computer software
--Project Type: (Research or implementation): Research and implementation
--Project Nature: (software or hardware or software and hardware or simulation): software and hardware
--Target students (choose one or more: Telecom programme, ecommerce programme, Internet of Things programme): Telecom and IoT programmers
-- Four Main tasks (has to be four):
1. . Analysis of the Smart Home Kit
2. . Design of the software architecture, logic layers and data bases.
3. . Implementation: deployment of the designed system, web dashboard and smartwatch app.
4. . Demonstrator: Pilot test of the system within a whole-week.
----Expected output for exams (has to be four and the last one has to be submitting a conference paper):
1. . Reception of continuous or singleton signals from the sensors
2. . Display signalling in two mentioned interfaces (smartwatch and web)
3. . Draw graphs combining all the acquired signals, inferring some knowledge and providing if needed, some advice. Software modules that will be publicly available.
4. . Submit a conference paper with the results.
