Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , UTILISATION DE DIFFERENTS TYPES DE GRIGNONS D'OLIVE DANS L'ALIMENTATION DES LAPEREAUX(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) Chaabane, K.; Bergaoui, R.; Ben Hammouda, M.[EN] Four rations were formulated and tested. The control diet contains 34% of alfalfa mea!. The others contain 30% of one of the olive cakes : crude olive cake (feed B), exhausted olive cake (feed E) and cake from super presses (feed C). The digestibnle energy content of the olive oil cakes are estimated at 2200, 1700 and 835 kcal/kg respectively for the crude, exhausted and super presses olive cakes. After granulation the dry matter of the feed C was the same than the other feeds in spite of high leve! of water in the cake (60%). The digestibility, using 16 rabbits of 8 weeks of age, of the different elements of the rations were lower with feeds containing olive cakes than the control containing alfalfa meal. The digestibility of crude fiber particularly falls from 22.4% with the control to 12.4, 10.0 and 12.5 respectively with feeds B, E and C. 160 young rabbits, weaned at 29 days, 5 week old at the begining and with an average weight of 1050 g were used to tested the four rations. Average daily gains, between 5 and 11 weeks of age, were higher with diets C and B (31.7 and 31.0 g/d) than with E and the control T (29.9 and 28.6 g/d). During the same period feed intake was higher in B (5283 g) and E (5272 g) than in C (4850) and T(4564). Feed conversion ratio (kg/kg) were respectively 4.10, 4.26, 3.70 and 3.83. The use of the different olive oil cakes has no effect on the carcass yields but leads to fattiest carcasses with diet B probably attributable to individual variations and the limited number of animals (8) used for this measure. lncorporation of olive oil cake (specially exhausted olive oil cake) in the diets of young rabbits until 30% is possible and beneficia!. This practice will help the country to spare foreign currencies and permits a reduction of the cost of the rabbit meat.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , RATE OF PASSAGE IN THE RABBIT DIGESTIVE TRACT : INFLUENCE OF MARKER DOSING TIME, ILEAL CANNULATION AND MARKER TYPE(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) GlDENNE, T.; LAPANOUSE, A.[EN] A control group of 5 adult rabbits and a group of 4 ileocannulated rabbits, fed ad libitum were used to assess the effect of marker dosing time, marker type (Ytterbium vs Cerium labelled cellwall) and the effect of the ileal cannulation, on measureme~~ of passage rate (RPM). The passag;¡.P,te of particles labelled with Yb was equal to those labelled with Ce, and allowed the comparison of RPM obtained with these two markers given at different times to the animals. In our experimental conditions, over 70% percent of the animals showed no hard faeces excretion between 10:00 and 16:00, because of soft faeces excretion during this period. The total mean retention time (MRT) did not vary significantly when the marker dosing time took place out of the period of caecotrophy (meanly 20.3h). But a 25% reduction in MRT (-5.2h) was observed when marker was given during caecotrophy (at 13:00) compared to a dosing time at the beginning of the caecotrophy (11 :00). This decrease in MRT values at 13:00 was partly due to a shorter (-1.5h) minimal transit time (Tim). When the marker was given befare caecotrophy (8:00) or at the beginning of the caecotrophy (11 :00), a part of the labelled particles could be incorporated directly into the soft faeces and ingested, thus contributing to increase the MRT value and particularly the Tim value. For a dosing time after caecotrophy, the labelled particles spent more time in the caeco-colic segment. In addition, the variability of rate of passage parameters appeared to be lower for a dosing time placed at the beginning of the caecotrophy (11 :00). Rabbits having an ileal cannula showed a slight lower (-15%) feed intake and a higher faecal digestibility (+2 units). No significant difference in transit however was registered between conventional and cannulated animals.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , MODIFICATIONS OF SOME PARAMETERS OF THE RABBIT EJACULATE AFTER ABLATION OF THE VESICULAR GLAND(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) Del Niño Jesús, A.; Muños López, I.; Josa, A.; Espinosa, E.; Gracia, M.; García Martínez, M.P.; Leuza, A.[EN] An evaluation is made of the influence which the vesiculectomy may have on the ejaculate in the rabbit. To do this we have studied three different factors in the semen, before and after the operation: quality control parameters (volume, vitality and concentration), presence or not of the mucous plug and levels of different ions (sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium) in the rabbit's seminal ¡tasma. At the same time we performed periodical determinations o these ions in the blood plasma, in order to rule out the fact that the variations of the cation levels in the seminal plasma could be due to alterations of these levels in the bloodreduction in the seminal quality parameters analysed (46,4% for concentration, 29.5% for vitality and 45,6% for volume). On the other hand, as far as the concentration of the different ions in seminal plasma is concemed, a significant fall in the case of sodium (21.1 %) is observad and a parallel increase of the calcium, magnesium and potassium ions, although the difference is only significant in the first ofthe three (19%) .Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , FASTING EFFECTS ON IN VITRO FERMENTATION PATTERN OF RABBIT CAECAL CONTENTS(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) Piattoni, F.; Demeyer, D.; Maertens, L.[EN] Caecal contents were collected from six 16h fasted (F) and six non fasted (NF) rabbits, sacrificed between 9 and 1 Oam. They were incubated for 24h/39ºC and net productions of volatile fatty acids (VFA) and methane were determined. In a separate preliminary experiment, caecal contents obtained from a F and a NF rabbit were incubated with starch, cellulose or pectins. In F animals, total VFA concentration was lower (P<0.001) and caecal pH significantly higher (P=0.015) than in NF enes: 6.5 vs 6.2. Molar proportions of propionate were higher than butyrate (11.3 vs 4.0%) in F rabbits. However, the latter became higher after 24h of in vitro incubation. Significant (P<0.001) less total VFA (844 vs 1776 μmol/flask) but higher (P=0.003) amounts of methane (271 vs 131 mmoles/mole VFA) were formed using caecal contents from F rabbits. Calculated hydrogen recoveries were indicative of reductive acetogenesis (RA) in NF but not in F animals (49 vs 73%). When one of the substrates was added, effect of fasting was not any more clear for VFA but still for methane and hydrogen recoveries.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , ENILCONAZOLE AS A TREATMENT OF NATURALLY OCCURRING DERMATOPHYTOSIS IN RABBIT FARMS : A REVIEW(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) Rochette, F.; Van Meirhaeghe, P.[EN] This article summarises six clinical trials with the antimycotic enilconazole carried out in four countries. lt is concluded that desinfection with enilconazole spray of the total environment (walls, ceiling, cages, etc.) in rabbit stables is an effective way of controlling dermatophytosis. The number of ringworm les1ons regressed substantially after the application of the ready-to-use spray. A high dosage of 50 mg/m2 enilconazole was applied because caging and nest materials and other litter were present. No sideeffects were observed. This treatment should be carried out twice weekly in batteries filled with rabbits and should be continued for at least 3 weeks.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , EFFECTS OF DIETARY FAT ON REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF RABBIT DOES : A REVIEW(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) Fortun-Lamothe, L.[EN] Addition of fat permits a noticeable increase of digestible energy intake by rabbit does (231 kJ per day I 1 % ether extract). Additional energy intake is used in priority for rnilk production. This leads to heavier young rabbits at weaning {+2.1 % for each 1 % increase in ether extract). Fat inclusion also rnodify rnilk cornposition {fatty acids proportions), but influence on suckling rabbits survival is unclear. Effects of dietary fat on fertility of rabbit does are non existent or positive. Positive effects should be overall related to the increase of dietary energy content associated with fat inclusion. Effects on prolificity are controversia!. Finally, fat addition seerns not to reduce body rnobilization in prirniparous does, however, in a longer term, it should irnprove fernale body condition. In conclusion, fat inclusion permits overall a higher rnilk production, but sorne negative effects of fat on prolificity obtained irnpose to use this feedstuff in the diet of reproductive rabbits with carefulness. Nevertheless, fat addition could be justified for sorne breeding conditions {hot ternperature).Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , COURTE NOTE : NEPHROBLASTOME (TUMEUR DU REIN) SPONTANÉ CHEZ UNE LAPINE D'ELEVAGE (Oryctolagus cuniculus)(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) BOUCHER, S.; PLASSIART, G.; NOUAILLE, L.; ANJOT, P.[EN] During a routine autopsy, the authors had discovered a tumor on a 8 month old doe's kidney issue from a commercial ligne « Hy-plus ». The histological test revealed a nephroblastoma, one of the young's tumor with not very differentiated cells. lt reproduces the structures of the embryonic beginnings of the kidney. Diagnostic possibilities, possible treatments comparad with the human ones and the origin of sorne genetic aspects of neprhoblastoma are mentionned.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , CHANGES IN PLASMA PROGESTERONE AND ESTRADIOL DURING NATURAL PROSTAGLANDIN F2a-INDUCED PARTURITION IN THE RABBIT(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1997) Rebollar, P.G.; Alvariño, J.M.R.; Illera, J.C.; Silvan, C.; Lorenzo, P.[EN] The influence of administration of natural prostaglandin F2a (PgF) on plasma progesterone (P4) and estradiol-17(l (E2) levels during the last days of pregnancy (days 29-32) was studied in 13 doe rabbits of the California x New Zealand White breed. Animals were allocated to receive either a single intramuscular injection of 800 or 1200μg of natural PgF on day 29 of pregnancy at 10 h (treated groups) or no injection (control group). AH does treated with PgF kindled within 60 h after injection, whereas the variation in birth time in control group was greater (79.2 ± 8.9 h). No influence of the prostaglandin treatment on mean plasma estradiol (5.2 pg/ml) and both litter size and born dead (7.2 ± 0.7 and 0.4 ± 0.6, respectively) was observed. A significant fall in progesterone concentration was defected in treated animals at 20 h on day 29 compared with control group (3.17 ± 0.22 and 3.47 ± 0.32 vs. 6.7 ± 1.4 ng/ml; P<0.05). Our results suggest that the induction of parturition with natural PgF has similar effects on plasma P4 levels and in synchronization of parturitions to synthetic analogues, although the dose administered is greater.
