[EN] The Episcopal See of Egara is a Christian set composed of three churches (Saint Mary, Saint Peter and Saint Michael, which was built in the Visigothic period. The Director’s Plan of the See of Egara was promoted by Terrassa City Council between 1994 and 2010 under an agreement with the parish Church of St. Peter and the Bishopric of Barcelona, and thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish and Catalan Governments. The main goal of this paper is to show the management model that has been developed during the Director’s Plan. This has enabled us to study, preserve and promote the architecture of the set and especially the wall paintings from Visigothic period that adorn the apses of the three churches. [EN] Regardless of the protection figures that we can apply, or the institutions involved in the heritage`s protection, whether they are from the government or the communities, the inherent complexity of heritage management and protection ultimately becomes always a subject solve in the local level. The diversity of disciplines that have been in one way on other involved (heritage, environment, urban planning…) only increase the complexity of management, and the local level is the one which best characteristics to think about new proposals and ideas. The intention in the current paper is to make a presentation about the role of towns in heritage protection, and, more precisely, the tasks that local police could play in improving of heritage management and protection.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , La dinámica espacio-temporal del Patrimonio Mundial en Peligro(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Foronda Robles, Concepción; Rojas Pavón, María[EN] World Heritage sites are suffering changes, due to climate change and its effects, as well as the role played by human being, responsible for the emergency situation that the planet is experiencing. The aim of this work is to analyze from a space-time perspective (1979-2018) various specific aspects of the List of World Heritage in Danger. The analysis will be done through variables such as the composition of the list and its continental distribution, the development of the countries and the possession of this figure, the period of permanence in the List and the economic assistance that UNESCO offers to them. For this study, it has been used the UNESCO State of Conservation Reports, registration documents and different reports generated from conventions for the protection of heritage. The results show the increase of the danger in the last years for the World Heritage and the differences in their management depending on the development of the country in which they are as well as the propensity to be located in Africa and the Middle East and to spend long periods of permanence in “this Black List”.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , Google Arts & Culture y los museos virtuales: nuevas herramientas de difusión del patrimonio cultural(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Reigosa Lombao, Clara[EN] As society evolves, the interpretation of museums, monuments or natural and cultural heritage sites has transformed in favour of greater and better communication with different audiences. Far removed in time are the currents of thought that hinder the understanding and enjoyment of these spaces by a cultural elite. The arrival of new technologies and their implementation in museums has meant a great advance in the field of heritage dissemination. Among the multitude of options that we find on the web, and after many years of work, improvement and optimization, Google Arts & Culture is presented as one of the great tools for online knowledge of Spanish cultural heritage. This initiative, born in Spain in 2009, merges Google's trademark technologies with the interest of museums and heritage sites in being on the web; in other words, in having a place in the world. [EN] The mining in Rio Tinto mostly by The Rio Tinto Company Limited and other Spanish companies (CEMRT, ERT, RTP, RTM, etc.), they changed the territory and turned it into a cultural landscape with its own characteristics. On the one hand, this activity generated a set of mining facilities that over time it have been recovered as part of the heritage and as elements for the development of cultural tourism, once they lost its functionality. On the other hand, it generated documentary heritage that has been organized, preserved and guarded for historical and cultural research since the creation of the AHMFRT. This work is about highlighting the different typology of the documentary heritage guarded by the Rio Tinto Foundation and its impact on the different “heritage” (historical, archaeological, architectural, technological, anthropological, etc.) which were generated with mining, in a way that allows interaction of interdisciplinary studies based on documentary heritage as a transversal axis. It will be emphasized the importance of going towards to an integral management of the mining heritage, which affects both the people responsible for it and the elements of the heritage. This way it will be valued a forgotten documentary heritage at the service of the reconstruction of the mining landscape that shows us the traces of a flourishing industrial past.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , La Zona Patrimonial de la Cuenca Minera de Riotinto-Nerva. Trayectoria y retos patrimoniales de futuro(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Mosquera Pérez, Clara; Navarro de Pablos, Javier; Navas Carrillo, Daniel; Mosquera Adell, Eduardo[EN] This study aims to analyse the trajectory of the Heritage Zone, as a recently created and reduced application figure through the case of the Riotinto-Nerva Mining Basin. The unique landscape and legal characteristics of this Asset of Cultural Interest make this study an opportunity to advance in future statements. The evolution of the legislative panorama of heritage, including this novel preservation figure, raises the need to evaluate its result in terms of heritage management. In the concurrence of a series of heritage agents and with the coexistence of different regulations and previous inscriptions, it is considered necessary to analyse the plurality of actions proposed by the administration, including fundamental aspects such as management, the evolution in the perception of the different heritage elements, their social appreciation or the dissemination strategies applied since their registration. The Riotinto-Nerva Mining Basin is one of the oldest and most representative mining sites in the world. It is also proposed that the guidelines necessary for its inscription on the World Heritage List be further developed, justifying its exceptional character by its colouring, toponymic differentiation and identity landmark for the local community. The definition of its potential Outstanding Universal Values (OUV), their attributes and possible limits will be investigated. [EN] In this paper we present a reflection on the use of the convergent photogrammetry technique for the realization of a unique model of the Gothic paintings of the church of San Miguel de Daroca (Zaragoza), which are currently divided among those that are still preserved in the apse of the church and those that were teared from the wall in the 40s of the last century and that are currently in the Provincial Museum of Zaragoza, divided into two different canvases that do not allow their contemplation in the original position in which they were made or in relation with those that are still in the apse. This work is added to the one already carried out by the Campo de Daroca Foundation for the digitization of all the mural painting and completes that of the mural gothic paintings of the Romanesque apse of the Ex-Collegiate of the Corporales de Daroca and provides a reflection on the importance that the operator acquires in the realization of a three-dimensional model that will be made available to the public.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , La Venta de Borondo: Patrimonio cultural manchego ligado al Quijote en peligro(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Cejudo Loro, David; Orellana López de la Franca, Julio; Torres Más, Miguel[EN] Borondo’s Inn is a Manchego inn from the 16th century located in Daimiel (Ciudad Real), which is in a serious state of deterioration. This inn was built in an important region beside Real Road that connected Almagro with the Levante and southeast of Spain. The inn was declared in 2007 as a Site of Cultural Interest in the Monument category. However, the building, which is a private property, was not restored, and its situation became critical since 2016. The severe situation of the monument encouraged the society from Daimiel, resulting in the founding of the “Venta de Borondo y Patrimonio Manchego Association”, who carried out an emergency intervention in 2018 for the restoration of the inn’s southeast tower. [EN] A great quatity of monuments have been preserved in Talavera de la Reina, apart from other sites and unique spaces. In 2006, this led several social groups to consider that the city met the requirements to get the Historic Centre declaration. This was achieved in February 2019, although it is now necessary to present a strategy that leads to the creation of tools and mechanisms that allow its correct management. It is crucial to elaborate a new urban plan aimed to solve different issues, like the uniformity of several elements in the urban landscape -urban furniture, signs, lighting systems, pavement…-, establishing criteria on the use of artistic ceramic in façades, allowing extra floors in exchange for archaeological remains preservation, pedestrianizing streets or signage issues. There is also the need to take any corrective measures regarding façades or other disturbing elements in protected spaces or buildings. These actions require the improvement of administratives procedures or the creation of an organism that would centralize all related issues.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , Gestionar castillos municipales en la provincia de Alicante (España): análisis de los casos de Castalla y Tibi(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Mira Rico, Juan; Martí i Pérez, Daniel; Ortega Pérez, José Ramón[EN] The Valencian Community is a privileged territory in terms of castles due to the historical development of Spain, first as part of al-Andalus, and then as part of the crowns of Aragon and Castile. For instance, the province of Alicante has “only” 47 fortifications of municipal property. Many of them date from the Muslim occupation or emerged as part of the southeast border’s defence of the Crown of Aragon against the Crown of Castile. On the other hand, many of these fortifications have been studied from an archaeological, architectural, historical and management point of view. This paper analyses the management of Castalla Castle and Tibi Castle, located in the north of the province of Alicante. These municipal castles are Muslim and take part of the southeast border’s defence of the Crown of Aragon. They also have different management degrees. Although Castalla Castle was abandoned during the eighties of the twentieth century, it became a professionally managed fortification in the second decade of the twenty-first century. For its part, Tibi Castle is an unmanaged fortification whose situation is beginning to be reversed thanks to the elaboration of a master plan –now completed– pending approval by the city council. [EN] Larraga is located in the centre of Navarra (Spain), on the banks of the River Arga. It has been a town mainly dedicated to agricultural production, since ancient times. Some rural buildings disseminated throughout its territory stand out for their singularity among all the constructions with agricultural character. They are some related to beekeeping activity. These constructions integrate an entire system of buildings whose objectives are to lodge stable swarms of bees: bejeras (beehives), acclimatization cells or ventureros, wells and huts seek their accommodation in the territory, opening to the most favourable orientation. Its constructive characteristics are linked to the materials provided by the territory and traditional techniques, almost disappeared. Nowadays, although beekeeping activity has almost disappeared in Larraga, but these vestiges have a great ethnographic and cultural interest. They constitute an element of identity of Larraga population, and they are a referent of an economy linked to the territory and its sustainability over time. Aware of the importance of its conservation, the City Council has begun a series of actions with the aim of preserving this rich and unique heritage, spreading it and making it known. This article exposes the conclusions of the work carried out so far for the conservation and enhancement of this heritage, as well as its future challenges. [EN] The village of Allariz is a small heritage jewel of the Galician territory. Unlike what has happened to other Galician villages, its historic centre, crossed by the river Arnoia, has remained unchanged throughout history. We can see traces of its medieval past as a royal residence, its stately magnificence or its transformation in a protoindustrial city, with multiple tanneries on the bank of the river. Despite its declaration as a Historic-Artistic Site in 1971, the village and its surroundings were being abandoned at the end of the last century. In the following decade, after an enormous neighbours demands, the local government approved the Special Plan for the Historic District. The creation of a Restoration Department and a workshop, allowed for the recovery of equipment and public spaces, which was the key for win the European urban and regional planning Award. The objective of this paper will be to analyze the different plans carried out over the last years that have permitted the recovery of its historical aspect and its natural perimeter, so that at present, the town’s heritage has become its economic engine. [EN] King Charles VI madness; the kingdom of France promised to the King of England through the Traty of Troyes; the tragic death at the stake of Joan of Arc; the appear of the carácter of death in arts… Several facts that show us how far the 14th and 15th centuries make part of a crucial and problematic era. In that time it was not easy to maintain a social status, generally achieved thanks to the help of princes and the enormous expenses in the construction of imposing buildings that ensured the greatness of those characters. Jean de Montaigu went beyond the external and internal wars and struggled to achieve his goals, even if that took his own life. In the south of Paris he built his manor in which he included the parish church, a convent and his magnificent castle. [EN] The water galleries are almost horizontal mine-holes, made for the extraction of groundwater. In Tenerife, the drilling of galleries has been a necessity almost since the beginning of the Conquest, and this drilling activity has been especially significant since the end of the 19th century, as a response to the needs associated initially with agriculture for export and later with the expansion of tourism. The number of drilled galleries exceeds one thousand, of which almost five hundred are still in operation. The group of galleries, as well as the historical network of pipes, make up highly significant heritage groups to understand our cultural evolution, which deserve attention and maintenance. As a consequence of the high mineralization of the aquifers, the water in many galleries has a high petrifying capacity, especially those located in the northwest and southwest areas of the island. The characteristics of lithic waters and sediments are analysed, providing correlations with other places where this type of carbonated water appears. It is proposed to take advantage of this petrifying capacity for the production of sculptural forms. [EN] Salamanca was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List 30 years ago. Since then the criteria for managing cultural assets have evolved significantly. In order to update Salamanca’s valuable characteristics, a challenging plan is needed based on cultural and environmental aspects. In this context, the City Hall of Salamanca has recently approved the "Green Urban Infrastructure Plan 2020- 2035"(PEPIVB). Through this proposal, a strategy based on a holistic approach has been established in order to integrate the valuable environmental, social, economic and cultural aspects of the city as a whole. This will allow the city to face the new challenges of the 21st century through the implementation of sustainable, long lasting nature based solutions. The strategy is a solid and dynamic plan, able to evolve and adapt to the city's changes and needs. The city will be provided with a consolidating urban tool that is novel in comparison with other green cities. The strategy will be implemented in the whole municipality and is expected to have an impact on the surrounding towns as well as on the entire region. It is an innovative strategy based on two universal values: urban green infrastructure and heritage. [EN] The archaeological excavations that have been carried out in the Hispano-Roman city of Valeria have exhumed the remains of a thermal complex from the 1st century AD that it was in service for four centuries and that, after its abandonment, it was barely spoiled for its constructive and decorative materials. This circumstance has allowed the conservation of a paving mosaic in a good state of preservation. In this same room has been recovered an important collection of fragments corresponding to the parietal musive decoration that constitutes a unique corpus in the Roman archaeology of the province of Cuenca. Due to the historical-archaeological importance of this type of elements, a meticulous data collection was carried out that included the realization, by means of the direct contact drawing technique, of a full-scale tracing of each of the paving surfaces and the most important and representative fragments of parietal musive decoration. This technique allowed an exhaustive knowledge not only of the represented musive surfaces, but also of technical details regarding the implementation of the decorative elements, the organization of work or the repairs carried out on this type of decorative surface. [EN] The paper aims to deepen the knowledge of the anthropization processes of the coastal landscape of Lazio, between Civitavecchia, to the north, and Terracina, to the south, focusing attention on the system of defensive towers as architectural evidence, still visible, of a territory in transformation, altered by urbanization, often “spontaneous”, which caused, especially in the last century, the uncontrolled expansion of illegal settlements and the construction of important infrastructures. The work investigates, above all, the complex relationship established between the system of coastal towers – today very different from the past but still legible – for their function of defense and control, since these architectures represented in the past, strong signs in the area, significant elements of great value. Intact or reduced to the state of ruin, these testimonies, mostly abandoned in the mid-nineteenth century, are still able to tell important historical and architectural events. The contribution, through the study of archival and iconographic sources and the survey, has as its objective not only to investigate history, but also to propose actions for the recovery and enhancement of these structures.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , La recuperación del Palacio de Pedro I de Torrijos (Toledo): Una apuesta de la administración local(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Torres Camacho, Jesús; Aceituno Luengo, Fernando[EN] The Palace of Pedro I de Torrijos (Toledo) constitutes an interesting example of monumental recovery carried out by the local administration. The bet of the City Council of Torrijos met with enormous difficulties from its attempts to sell it by the religious congregation that inhabited it for centuries, to litigation over its property. Currently the Pedro I Palace is the administrative and cultural headquarters of the town, as well as a tourist resource of enormous potential.Item type: Capítulo de libro , Access status: Abierto , Las investigaciones arqueológicas como recurso en la gestión integral del patrimonio del Parque Nacional del Teide(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-01-21) Marrero Salas, Efrain; Array de la Rosa, Matilde; García Ávila, J.; Abreu Hernández, Ithaisa; Lacave Hernández, Alberto; Carballo Pérez, Jared; Sanchez Cañadilla, Elías; Ruiz González, Hacomar; González Reimers, Emilio[EN] The Teide National Park (PNT) was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007 with the category of Natural Heritage. In addition to the great geological and faunal richness of the high mountains of Tenerife, the territory occupied by the current National Park also has a whole cultural landscape, which is evidenced by numerous archaeological and ethnographic manifestations. This shows the historical importance of this site of the island since pre-Hispanic times. In the last decade, several archaeological excavations have been carried out which have made it possible to better determine the Guanche way of life and the uses of this territory in its diachrony. The location, the conservation that the archaeological assets present and the information they are providing, together with the written sources generated about this territory after the conquest, constitute an important strategic reference for the development of management and integral research formulas within the Park's dissemination activities, which could contribute to its conservation, and to a better knowledge of our past in order to be able to transmit it to the whole population of the island, as well as to those who visit it.
