[EN] The filling of pipelines must be made in conditions of maximum safety, since it is a delicate operation that can generate important system overpressures. The need, therefore, arises to design a filling protocol for big pipelines, which requires the use of a mathematical simulation model. The model is able to predict the evolution of pressure and flow during operation, as well as the filling time with enough precision, having compared the results with experimental data obtained on the field and those that the Allievi model provides, which uses the piston model as well as the method of characteristics. A restriction of this method is the application to a section of constant slope with a maximum of five suction cups distributed along the pipeline.

[EN] This study proposes a stochastic methodology for the allocation of seasonal dam maximum conservation levels optimizing regular operation and hydrological dam safety. Furthermore, this methodology accounts the influence of accounting initial reservoir level variability. The methodology was applied to an arch dam classified as of risk type A with irrigation as the main demand associated. In the case study, a set of maximum conservation levels has been determined maximizing the supplied demand with a reliability of 90%. When accounting for initial reservoir level variability, the studied dam does not require flood control levels to fulfill the regulations regarding to overtopping. However, if the initial reservoir level at the beginning of the flood event is assumed equal to the seasonal maximum conservation level, the reservoir needs a flood control volume of 70 hm3 in one of the seasons. The methodology exposed can be useful in the analysis and prioritization of investments in hydrological safety of existing dams.

[EN] Intensity-duration-frequency curves (IDF) are a fundamental tool in hydrological engineering. The work presented in this manuscript was made with the 88-year precipitation series recorded every ten minutes at the Igueldo (San Sebastián) weather station. After verifying the homogeneity and non stationarity of the series, IDF curves were obtained through a frequency analysis (FA) made with the Hydrognomon programme. Those curves were compared with those estimated from the AF of the simulated series with the Modified Bartlett-Lewis (MBL) model and with the Témez equation. The objective of this work is the evaluation of these last two methodologies. Two precipitation characteristic hyetographs were generated with the IDF curves obtained with the three methods. The curves and hyetographs obtained by Témez gave a good fit starting from return periods, T, of over 20 years. The results obtained from the simulated series with MBL were not as satisfactory.

Mejora del reconocimiento de usos finales del agua mediante la simplificación de la traza de caudal: un caso de estudio

[EN] The success of automatic water end use disaggregation and classification strategies greatly depends on the filtering and signal conditioning of the flow traces recorded. The work presented proposes a new filtering algorithm of water consumption flow traces. To improve the performance of the filter, the parameters driving the process are found per event by an automatically calibration procedure. These parameters are selected to ensure the maximum adaptability and simplification of the filtered flow traces. The methodology has been tested with 5210 consumption events obtained from a measurement campaign conducted in a Spanish city. The results obtained show that the filtering algorithm is capable of significantly simplifying the original flow traces while maintaining their main characteristics. On average, it has been found that the most complex events can be described using only 10% of the input data. This analysis can be used to make more efficient the filtering procedure proposed.

Tasas de sedimentación y características de sedimentos de fondo en tres embalses de Antioquia, Colombia

[EN] The sedimentology of three reservoirs of Empresas Públicas de Medellín, located in Antioquia, Colombia, showed high average sedimentation rates. In Riogrande II of 2.25 m year–1, in La Fe of 0.14 m year–1 and in Porce II of the order of 7.6 m year–1. In these reservoirs there are differences in the accumulation of sediments, the silts are concentrated in the stagnant and deeper areas while the sands in the inlets of the drainages to the reservoirs. There is a marked seasonal tendency of sedimentation with maximum values during the rainy months and there are spatio-temporal compositional and granulometric differences. A simulation of the sedimentary evolution of these three reservoirs indicates their possible disappearance as a deposit of water to continue the contributions of sediments from the tributaries, being more drastic in Porce II.
