In this way, there is a minimum catalog of human rights that the Constitution collects and aims to guarantee. However, when the Constitution lacks the guideline of humanism and solidarity, its ineffectiveness in the protection and assurance of human rights, namely equality and freedom, is foreseeable.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Recomendaciones para la incorporación de la perspectiva de género en el planeamiento urbano(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-04-28) Alvarez Isidro, Eva María; Gómez Alfonso, Carlos José; Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Grupo de Investigación en Arte y Arquitectura Contemporánea[EN] Frequently, the technical and political staff of the administrations gets difficulties in incorporating the gender perspective into urban planning since they generally imagine that it can consist of a set of solutions to be applied a posteriori. The university plays a key role in the contemporary world not only because of being the place of professionalization, study and research, but mainly because of its role in promoting social participation, citizenship and social progress. In this article, we seek to discuss the implementation of gender mainstreaming in the Portuguese academy based on concrete experiences of gender equality plans implemented in universities and public polytechnics. Taking into account that GM has been implemented in different ways and in different contexts, based on different conceptualizations and approaches and with different resources and levels of commitment, it is fundamental to encourage reflection and critical analysis that allows us to identify failures and errors, achievements and benefits, but also dangers and challenges that are posed to their practical implementation, in particular at the level of institutions of higher education, given their specificityItem type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , La lucha contra la brecha salarial de género en el Derecho social europeo(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-04-28) Jimena Quesada, Luís[EN] Starting from the assumption that equal pay for female and male workers form parts of the foundations of European Social Law (both as an essential principle and a fundamental right), this essay reflects on two important challenges in order to face the gender wage gap: firstly, the role of social partners and relevant organisations of civil society in salary negotiations; and secondly, the extension of the scope of the valid comparator beyond the same undertaking to make easier the protective role of national judges (alongside other elements such as the assessment of the weight of statistics or the articulation of the proof burden). The author concludes that, in both aspects, the synergies between the European Union (in particular, the Court of Justice’s classic case-law) and the Council of Europe (especially, the European Committee of Social Rights’ innovative case-law) are essential.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Editorial(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-04-28) Cortina Orts, AdelaEditorial del primer número de la revista Ciencia, Técnica y Mainstreaming Social (CITECMA).
