Prior y Llombart, Jaime.

[EN] The Polaroid images created by photographer and architect Gabriel Campuzano convey a sense of engagement with someone else s memories, of shared experience. The changes Campuzano brings to these familiar views of Le Corbusier s architecture constitute a kind of clinging, deforming overlay. This defamiliarisation supplants the security and certainty of the known and shatters the relationship between signifier and signified, creating an open-ended array of possible links between the two. This article reflects on Campuzano s use of Polaroid film, colour, and framing, both in his work as a whole and, more specifically, in his approach to some of Le Corbusier s most iconic architectural creations, gauging the difference between solid fact the photographed structure and what is known about it and the experience of its contemplation. The result corroborates the hypothesis that Gabriel Campuzano s Polaroid snaps of Le Corbusier s work facilitate a communion of untransferable memories: a coming together of allegorical reminiscences that augments the ineffable magnitude of the architecture portrayed.

Le Corbusier. Le poème de Venise
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-29) Torres Cueco, Jorge; Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Grupo de Proyecto Arquitectura
[EN] On 3 October 1962, Le Corbusier sent a "Messaggio" to the Mayor of Venice in response to his request to participate in a forthcoming congress on "Il problema di Venezia" to which he had been invited. It is a document in which he invites reflection on how to act in a historic city as particular as Venice, which he appreciated and knew perfectly well. With this in mind, the aim is to offer an extensive documentation of his relationship with this city through his various trips, his photographs, drawings, sketches and projects, in particular the Venice Hospital, which is recognised as his design testament. The aim is to reveal the different ways in which he approached it: from the sensorial capture of its figurative aspects on his first trip in 1907, to the discovery of architectural elements such as domes or bell towers that shape its silhouette and his interest in the architecture of Palladio in 1922, or the appreciation of its urban structure "witness to its functional rigour" in 1934, to be reinterpreted in a project, the Hospital, in which the environmental and structural characteristics that define this city are revealed. In conclusion, Venice had been a lesson for Le Corbusier, an intensely poetic lesson.

Anatomía de un paisaje. Constricciones y libertades en el proceso proyectual de Le Corbusier
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-29) Morales Sánchez, José
[EN] The relationship between space and the gaze is fundamentally reviewed, and in what way it has been present since the beginning of the aspects most theorised by Le Corbusier, such as the "five points", on the other hand, an important path can be seen in his design process, encouraged by the exuberant geographies that had such an impact on him from the air during his travels through South America. In the "law of the meander", landscapes, spaces and a markedly organic spatial formalisation merge. Spaces and forms that are no longer left to the frontal gaze governed by the horizon line. The article describes some aspects of Le Corbusier's creative process, in which biographical events are superimposed, woven through pictorial formalisms together with the landscapes he visited and their geography, which had certain consequences on the organisation of the spaces he designed. All these developments formulate a series of constraints that migrate from photographs to building plans or paintings, which are also strongly influenced by the aforementioned circumstances.

    Un été 1928
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-29) Morel Journel, Guillemette
[EN] How to talk about an event that has already been told and commented on many times? The creation of the International Congress of Modern Architecture in La Sarraz in June 1928 is one of them. After the epic accounts of the first heroes of the "modern" adventure, historians have been more critical, circumspect, even suspicious or reproachful. Would we be in front of a myth built from scratch? Certainly, the unity of the "movement", self-proclaimed and undoubtedly harmful, deserves to be observed with caution; but almost a century after the facts, it is undoubtedly time to look at them with a new eye. Using a photograph and unpublished correspondence between two of the protagonists of the affair, I propose to get to the heart of the story.

C est épatant! Le Corbusier en Madrid
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-29) Feduchi Canosa, Pedro; Reula Baquero, Pedro
[EN] The presence of a chaise longue by Le Corbusier / Perriand / Jeanneret in Edgar Neville's flat, refurbished in 1927 by Carlos Arniches and Martín Domínguez, invites us to discuss the early works of the pair of architects, their relationship with Le Corbusier and the reception and presence in Spain of the Swiss architect. It also studies the refurbishment of Neville's flat in the historical and stylistic context of the mid-1920s, situated in the transition between the first historical avant-gardes - Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism... - and the arrival of Le Corbusier's rationalist functionalism. The fact that the lectures given by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Le Corbusier at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid in 1928 coincided within a few months of each other helps to trace the transition between the different avant-garde trends and to delve deeper into the architect's thinking on furniture, one of the themes included in his talks in Madrid and Barcelona.

Bajo la sombra de Le Corbusier: Aproximación a la obra doméstica de Pierre Jeanneret
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-29) Cardenas Niño, Oljer
[EN] What is known of Pierre Jeanneret's opera is mostly related to the work done in association with Le Corbusier. However, despite the amount of research on the figure of the modern Master, there is little attention on the importance of P. Jeanneret within the Atelier 35 rue de Sèvres. Even more enigmatic is the work of P. Jeanneret after the separation. Since housing was P. Jeanneret s main fascination as an architect, such work consisted in profound research and left insightful observations on housing and domestic space. This article wants to reflect on the themes and projects developed by Pierre Jeanneret, starting from his work in the Atelier 35 rue de Sèvres and from the prefabricated housing projects developed during the Second World War, moving through the period in Europe, with his reflection on the local character of the residence, and ending with his work in Chandigarh, the new Punjabi capital in India.

The Le Corbusier's Zurich Pavilion restored: Specific Spaces call for Specific Exhibitions
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-29) Rüegg, Arthur
[EN] Le Corbusier s Zurich Pavilion, built between 1964 and 1967 by his exclusive art and furniture dealer, Heidi Weber, is a model home that placed under two enormous steel umbrellas served to demonstrate the interaction of all the different creations of the artist-architect. In 2014, when Weber s lease of land expired, title to the pavilion fell to the City of Zurich, which decided to open it on a regular basis and run it as a Le Corbusier museum. A careful restoration set the building afloat again, based on the agreement that it could not be altered and used at will. While a number of relevant improvements was realized in the underground space, the sun-flooded but unheatable upper stories remained in their original state. The City formulated the potential uses according to the conditions that the restored pavilion dictated and finally entrusted the Museum für Gestaltung Zurich with its operation. The article shows how the specific climatic environments effectively shaped the design of the first three annual summer exhibitions.

    La lección de Le Corbusier
(2022-09-29) Calatrava Escobar, Juan; Dercelles, Arnaud; Torres Cueco, Jorge; Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Grupo de Proyecto Arquitectura
[EN] In the first issue of the journal Focus (1938), published by the students of the London Architectural Association, Le Corbusier wrote a short article entitled " If I had to teach you architecture", which was published in the Spanish version by Ediciones Infinito as an addendum to the Message to Architecture Students, entitled "If I had to teach you architecture". Here he stated that he would begin by prohibiting "orders", insisting on real respect for Architecture, on how moving the Acropolis or the Palazzo Farnese are, to emphasise the "fact that nobility, purity, intellectual perfection, plastic beauty and the eternal quality of proportion are the fundamental joys of architecture". He proposed, then, a lesson in architecture. This question underlies this issue of LC. Revue de recherches sur Le Corbusier.
