This study presents the development carried out in order to obtain depth damage curves tailored for Barcelona city and related to 14 types of properties. Moreover, a conceptual model to transfer outside-of-properties water depths into inside-of-properties water depths. The developed curves, have also been transferred to Badalona municipality and damages for actual flood events have been estimated for both cities. The obtained outcomes have been considered accurate enough, according to the conducted validation process based on the comparison with actual flood claims provided by the Spanish re-insurance company Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (CCS).Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Análisis temporal y frecuencial de presiones medidas en la solera de cuencos de aliviaderos de vertido libre(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2019-10-31) Marco, F.; Carrillo, J.M.; Castillo, L.G.; García, J.T.; Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte; Agencia Estatal de Investigación[EN] Free falling jet is one of the most common energy dissipation methods used in the overtopping of dams. This work presents the time and frequency analysis of pressure measurements obtained at the bottom of a plunge pool downstream of free falling jets in an experimental facility. A relative large device (falling height up to 2.85 m and impingement jet velocities between 5.3 and 7.6 m/s) has been used in the study. The behavior of the four types of free falling jets classified in previous studies has been analyzed in the time and the frequency domains. The study focuses on the pressure on the stagnation point. The pressure distributions near the stagnation point have been also analyzed. Finally, the results have been compared with the frequencies behavior for circular and rectangular jets available in the literature.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Modelos de simulación de alto orden para la resolución de fenómenos de propagación de ondas en flujos de lámina libre con turbulencia(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2019-10-31) Navas-Montilla, A.; Murillo, J.; García-Navarro, P.; Agencia Estatal de Investigación[EN] A depth-averaged large eddy simulation (DA-LES) model, based on the unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes approach for the shallow water equations, is herein presented. The simulation model aims at the resolution of free surface shallow flows where large-scale turbulence is mainly two-dimensional. The keystone of the model is the combination of a high order of accuracy in space and time with a suitable turbulence modelling that accounts for the effect of the unresolved eddies in the mean flow. The proposed model ensures the well-balanced property (i.e. quiescent equilibrium with machine precision) thanks to the use of augmented Riemann solvers, which include the bed slope source term in the definition of the derivative Riemann problem. The performance of the proposed model is assessed using experimental data from the literature. In particular, a laboratory experiment involving a shallow water flow over a submerged conical island is considered. The numerical results evidence that the proposed model is able to reproduce transient turbulent phenomena, providing a higher level of information and resolution than other models based on the traditional RANS (Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes) approach.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Metodología basada en generadores meteorológicos para la estimación de avenidas extremas(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2019-10-31) Beneyto-Ibáñez, Carles; Aranda, J.A.; Benito, G.; Francés, F.; Departamento de Ingeniería Hidráulica y Medio Ambiente; Departamento de Ingeniería Gráfica; Instituto Universitario de Ingeniería del Agua y del Medio Ambiente; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Caminos, Canales y Puertos; Agencia Estatal de Investigación[EN] An adequate characterization of extreme floods is key for the correct design of the infrastructures and for the flood risk estimation. However, the short length of the rainfall and flow data series along with the low probability of occurrence of this type of event cause that, to date, their adequate estimation still presents significant difficulties. This paper presents a methodology for the estimation of extreme floods based on the continuous generation of precipitation data series using weather generators and the integration of information of various types (systematic and non-systematic). The results obtained in the case study, Rambla de la Viuda, indicate that the joint use of continuous synthetic data series generated by a stochastic weather generator, a hydrological model and the integration of systematic and non-systematic information reduces the uncertainty in the estimation of extreme floods.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Implementación de un modelo de predicción de fallos orientado a la gestión y estrategias de mantenimiento en redes de distribución de agua potable(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2019-10-31) Ramírez, R.; Cobacho, R.; Torres, D.; López-Jiménez, P.A.[EN] The work presented in this paper has a dual objective: on the one hand, reaching reliable estimates for the pipes lifespan in a water distribution network; on the other, doing so by means of a relatively low complex model with relatively low need for historical data. The model is based on using the Weibull distribution over two years of failure records. The results achieved are compared with those provided by the well-known Weibull proportional risk model, that have been applied on the same data sets. The comparison is positive in both the location on the Davis curve obtained for each group of pipes, and the relative error existing between both estimates of future failures.
