- PublicationAnálisis de la evolución del complejo dunar Salinas- El Espartal mediante el empleo de ortofotografía, DSAS y LIDAR (1957-2021)(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-07-28) Fenández-Pacheco, Víctor Manuel; Amezqueta-García, Andone; Álvarez-Álvarez, Eduardo[EN] Dune systems are important multifunctional ecosystems for ecological balance and biodiversity. They are dynamic and fragile systems which require special protection, so it is essential to know how they have evolved over time. Most of the studies are based on making comparison between aerial photography due to the limited historical data available. In recent years, the use of data from LIDAR flights has made it possible to define the morphological units with greater precision and to determine the progress of the dune lines. Combining both sources of data using GIS techniques and DSAS software has already improved the results of the evolution of dune fields on other coasts of Spain. The study was carried out on the Salinas-El Espartal dune complex (Asturias). All available data from free sources have been downloaded, including aerial photography from 1957, orthophotography and LIDAR for the years 2014 and 2020. The results of this study show the degradation of the dune system, as 60% of the original natural area has been anthropized.
- PublicationDesarrollo en laboratorio de un sistema de detección temprana de fugas en balsas mediante tecnología de fibra óptica(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-07-28) Antolín Cañada, Diego; López Julián, Pedro Luis; Pérez Esteras, Javier; Sánchez Catalán, Juan Carlos; Acero Oliete, Alejandro; Russo, Beniamino; Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Turismo[EN] This paper presents the results obtained in the laboratory for the development of an early leak detection system in slurry storage ponds, through a technological solution based on the use of optical fiber placed as a distributed temperature sensor in the support subsoil of the pond itself. The monitoring system incorporates a continuous fiber optic cable connected to an interrogator and measures the temperature along the fiber with a minimum spatial resolution of 20 cm, after applying a thermal pulse that amplifies the system s response (active monitoring). The different tests performed made it possible to record thermal gradients greater than 6 °C which, in the different simulated hydraulic conditions, allow to interpret the hydraulic situation of the substrate along the optical fiber and thus locate possible water leaks from the storage ponds, thus verifying the adequacy of this methodology to the proposed objectives.
[EN] The spatio-temporal evolution of classical limnological variables has been studied in a Mediterranean reservoir: Rules, in the province of Granada, after its inauguration. The dynamics of nutrients and chlorophyll-a is strongly conditioned by: (i) contributions through fluvial waters; (ii) the photosynthetic activity in the upper layers of the water column and (iii) the accumulation of orthophosphate and ammonium in the anoxic hypolimnion during summer thermal stratification. The sedimentation rate in Rules Reservoir shows a clear increasing gradient in the dam-tail direction, reflecting the important contribution of allochthonous fluvial material. Finally, the comparison of the total concentrations of phosphorus and nitrogen after 10 years of operation, in which, among other factors, the purification of wastewater in the catchment basin has improved, has shown a drastic decrease.
[EN] The aim of this work was to evaluate the performance of a plant palette for treating light greywater (LGW) in a nature-based solution (NbS). Different layers of filter media (soil, granular activated carbon, zeolite, sand, and gravel) were packed in containers in conjunction with one of the following plant species: Chrysopogon zizanioides, Portulaca grandiflora, Tradescantia pallida, Nephrolepis obliterata, and Sansevieria trifasciata. The containers were fed weekly with 500 mL of LGW for eight weeks. The infiltrated water was recovered to test its quality against that of the LGW in terms of turbidity, electrical conductivity, COD, ammonia nitrogen, and phosphates. The quality of the effluents treated with C. zizanioides, P. grandiflora, and T. pallida complied with the specifications established by Mexican regulations for water being reused for infiltration purposes, so an SbN using the proposed plan palette could be optimized to promote a circular water economy at the household level.
- PublicationFlujo de agua en el suelo bajo condiciones de simetría radial. Contraste entre modelos(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-07-28) del Vigo, Ángel[EN] A review of some analytical models existing in the bibliography for the evolution of spherical symmetry bulb front advance is presented in this article. Surface drip irrigation is considered from a point (or quasi-point) source for a homogeneous, uniform and isotropic soil, in absence of gravitational force, neither water accumulation on the surface. Furthermore, a new analytical model for spherical symmetric bulb front advance evolution is proposed, based on simplifications in boundary conditions that can be assumed for surface drip irrigation. The model was deduced from the Darcy and continuity equations from a quasi-point source on the surface. At the end of the article, it is shown a comparison among all the analytical models mentioned and simulation results obtained through a numerical model that was validated and presented in previous publications.
