- PublicationLa restauración en los premios Aga Khan de Arquitectura(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1999-04-21) Noguera Giménez, Juan Francisco; Vegas López-Manzanares, Fernando; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Departamento de Composición Arquitectónica; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] A revision of the restoration works awarded with the Aga Khan Architecture Prizes throughout their history shows us that they strive to acknowledge collective efforts made in preservation, not only of architecture but the vast heritage involved in the cultural identity of every community. This overview includes a detailed description of the most recent prize, awarded for the rehabilitation of the city centre of Hebron, where great work has been done towards recovering its historic integrity in spite of the current conflicts. This more extensive and anonymous social attitude towards restoration is an alternative to the usual “brilliant” interventions on certain monuments.
- PublicationTapias y tapiales(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1999-04-21) López Martínez, Francisco Javier[EN] It is necessary to have knowledge of historic construction techniques in order to understand buildings, and it is a starting point for their restoration. Although we call them "historic techniques", the author says, they are still after all, so studying them can mean an important lesson for us, useful not only for restoration, but for building in general. In the article presented here, Francisco Javier López Martínez, with a long and rich experience, explains in a most didactic manner the concepts of adobe and cob walls (tapias and tapiales) and describes their characteristic features.
- PublicationRestauración urbana de la plaza de les Caseres y murallas de su entorno en Peñíscola(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1999-04-21) Balaguer Dezcallar, Pepa[EN] The unique city of Peñíscola hides in its streets and lanes the secrets of the building vicissitudes of its history, which this intervention has managed to discover, protect and value. The Guide Plan laying down the strategies for the restoration of the walled enclosure has acted as a frame for the urban recuperation of the fortifications in the south west of the citadel. The intervention had to overcome the difficulties that turned up during the archaeological excavations, adding complexity to a problem that was complicated enough to begin with. The final appearance, however, has lost nothing in the process but boasts the simplicity of a job well done.
- PublicationRestauración de armaduras de cubierta en iglesias mudéjares granadinas(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1999-04-21) Espinar Moreno, Antonio Luis; López Osorio, José Manuel; Martin Peinado, Beatriz[EN] The article presents the restoration works on the polychrome trusses of the parish churches of Santa María y San Pedro de Caniles and Santiago de Baza, financed by the Department of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía (Autonomous Government of Andalusia) and the parishes themselves. Both works were carried out between 1994 and 1997 and are part of a global intervention on the buildings, although here we are concentrating mainly on the restoration of the roof trusses and their beautiful paint work, elements of major interest, which justify the general intervention.
- PublicationLa reconstrucción de la Frauenkirche de Dresde(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1999-04-21) Vegas López-Manzanares, Fernando; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Departamento de Composición Arquitectónica; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] The complexity and the combination of many factors involved in this case of reconstruction make it unwise to jump to conclusions or apply hackneyed labels and worth reflecting about deeply. This purpose of this article is to look into the temple’s polysemy starting from its origin and history to point out its uniqueness and later moving on to technical, urbanistic and theoretical considerations that have to do with this building and provide a basis to estimate the excellence of the intervention.
