UPV, 1998) Szendrö, Z.; Randai, I.; Biro-Nemeth, E.; Romvari, R.; Milisits, G.; Kenessey, A.[EN] For 267 Pannon White growing rabbits of both sexes slaughtered at a body weight of 2.2-2.4, 2.4-2.6, 2.6-2.8, 2.8-3.0, 3.0- 3.2, 3.2-3.4 and 3.4-3.5 kg, the average dressing percentage was 59.5, 60.7, 61.9, 62.2, 61.4, 62.4 and 62.1 % respectively. While the weight of live animals increased by about 50 % between 2.29 and 3.42 kg the change in the weight of blood (23 %), full gastrointestinal tract (26 %) and head (35 %) were the lowest, whereas the intermediate part (65 %), liver (82 %), skin (73 %), meat on hind legs (74 %), meat on the intermediate part (85 %) and perirenal fat (326 %) gained weight the most rapidly. 129 Pannon White rabbits were slaughtered between 2.2 and 3.5 kg live weight. The water, protein, fat and ash content of their meat was analyzed in the M. longissimus dorsi (LD), hind leg (HL) and M. /ongíssimus dorsi + belly (LD + B). Water content averaged 74.8, 73.8 and 71.0 % in LO, HL and LD + B respectively, whereas protein, fat and ash content averaged 23.1, 22.1 and 21.7 %, 1.08, 3.24 and 6.39 %, 1.15, 1.09 and 1.04 % respectively, in the arder of the meat parts Usted above. Water content decreased and fat content increased with increasing weight (r = -0.47, -0.33 and -0.51, r = 0.38, 0.31 and 0.45 for water and fat contents of LD, HL and LD + B respectively). Protein and ash content did not change significantly with weight.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , THE EFFECT OF CAFFEINE ADMINISTRATION TO DILUTED SEMEN ON THE PROGENY IN RABBIT(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1998) BODNAR, K.[EN] The effect of two caffeine preparations was studied on the reproductiva parameters (conception rate, litter size and weight, sex ratio of the offspring) in rabbits. In the experiment, Al was carried out on 78 lactating females (divided into 3 groups). Group A was inseminated with diluted semen containing 1 mg Coffeinum Natrium Benzoicum per millilitre, group B was inseminated with diluted semen containing 1 mg Coffeinum Natrium SaHcylicum per millílitre, group e was inseminated with caffeine free diluted semen. The caffeine salicylate improved the conception rate (73.08, 100, 71.88 %) (P<0.01). There was no effect of caffeine on the litter size and weight. UPV, 1998) Fortun-Lamothe, L.; Lamboley-Gaüzere, B.[EN] This technical note describe the steps of fabrication of a protective backpack for the extemal part of catheters or flow probes chronically implantad in rabbits. This backpack is made with fabric and velera®, and the straps are made with electric wire which cannot be nibbled by the animal. This method is non invasiva and does not modify the animal behaviour (caecotrophy, suckling, washing .... ).Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , SUIVI TECHNIQUE DES PARAMETRES ZOOTECHNIQUES DANS UN ELEVAGE CUNICOLE AU LIBAN(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1998) Hajj, E.; Boutros, C.; Doumet, W.[EN] Parameters of production were registered during 8 months in a Lebanese rabbitry of 55 does and 8 males. Ali rabbits received ad líbitum the same pelleted diet produced for dairy cow (14.5% crude protein, 11.5% crude fibre, 4mm diameter) + alfalfa gay once a day. The breeding stock had no specific genotype and the estimated adult weight was bout 4.0 kg (3.76 kg at 180 days). Forthe 83 controlled litters, the number of boon alive was 5.0 and the number of weaned was 3.0 per litter (30 days). From weaning to the age of 115 days, average daily growth was 25g. Slaughter, performed by the breeder itself, was realised when live weight of rabbits was between 2.2 and 3.5 kg (73 % of the observations). Productivity if a rabbit doe extrapolated to one full year was 18 slaughtered youngs for a total of 52kg alive.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION OF RABBITS WITH DILUTED SEMEN STORED UP TO 96 HOURS(World Rabbit Science. ICTA. UPV, 1998) López, F.J.; Alvariño, J.M.R.[EN] The effect of different duration's rabbit semen storage at 18ºC (2, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours) on fertility and prolificacy has been studied in one experiment, where a total of 1447 artificial inseminations have been carried out using a new commercial extender, MA 24. The results indicate a similar fertility (84.14%, 83.56% and 79.73%) when increasing the time of conservation (2, 24 and 48 hours). Difference statistically significant were observed at 72 hours (67.59%) and fertility fell dramatically after 96 hours of conservation (39.23%). The number of total bom kits per litter follows the same tendency than fertility, presenting a light descent in the first conservation lntervals (8.92, 8.48 and 8.02) andan important reduction in the lastones (7.04 and 5.58). The conclusions of this work indicate that the extender MA 24 reaches a good performance for periods of conservation of the semen up to 48 hours in lactating females inseminated on day 4 postpartum, which can be considered good enough to develop a large scale utilisation of preserved rabbit semen.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF INTRA CYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION (ICSI) APPLIED ON RABBIT : A TECHNICAL NOTE(World Rabbit Science. UPV, 1999) Escribá, M.J.; García- Ximénez, F.; Generalitat Valenciana; Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia[EN] In a foundation process of a maternal rabbit line using high selection intensities, from sorne hyper prolific females, selected as embryo donors, the subjects were very old and in an unhealthy condition (24%). An in vitro procedure to obtain embryos from this kind of females would be desirable. Sorne technical improvements used for human intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) have resulted in an enhancement of cleavage rates. This method may be applied to rabbits. Spermatozoa from ejaculated washed semen samples were immobilised in 5% PVP droplet by touching the tail and aspirated tail first into the microinjection pipette. The positioned oocyte was punctured. Sorne ooplasm was aspirated. After rupturing the plasmalema by gentle aspiration, the withdrawn ooplasm and the sperm were inserted into the oocyte. The cleavage rate of intact (86/107; 80%) oocytes was checked at 24 hours after ICSI (39/107; 36%). In vitro development up to the morulae (22/39; 56%) and blastocyst stage (5/39; 13%) were obtained.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , PERFORMANCE OF BROILER RABBIT (Soviet Chinchilla x Grey Giant) FED LOW GRAIN CONCENTRATE(World Rabbit Science. UPV, 1998) Singh, P.; Pathak, N.N.; Biswas, J.C.[EN] Twenty one broiler rabbits, weaned at 5 weeks of age were divided into 3 groups of 7 each on the basis of body weight in a randomized block design and fed isonitrogenous concentrate mixture(s) containing either 60, 40 or 20% crushed maize grain in group 1, 2 and 3 respectively, alongwith ad libitum kikuyu (Pennisetum c/andistínum) - green grass. In group 2 and 3 replacement of crushed maize was largely done with wheat bran which is available abundantly at lower cost in India. The experiment was continued for 8 weeks ; DM intake and body weight gain were recorded at daily and weekly interval respectively. Body weight gain (17.9 to 19.7 g/d), feed conversion efficiency (3.6 to 3.9), hot carcass weight (663 to 698 g), weight of internar organs (% of body wt.) and total dry matter intake (89.9 to 93.8 g/d) did not differ significantly (P>0.05) among 3 groups. However inclusion of high level of wheat bran (group 2 and 3) in the diet significantly (P<0.01) enhanced the digestibility of dry matter. Present study indicates that broiler rabbits can be reared satisfactorily on a low grain concentrate (containing only 20 parts of maize grain and up to 64 parts of wheat bran) supplemented with ad libitum green grass fodder.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , IN VIVO MEASUREMENT OF BODY PARTS AND FAT DEPOSITION IN RABBITS BY MRI(World Rabbit Science. UPV, 1998) Köver, G.; Szendrö, Z.; Romvari, R.; Jensen, J.P.; Sørensen, P.; Milisits, G.; European Commission[EN] An experiment using Magnetic Resonance lmaging (MRI) tomography were done inwlving 87 rabbits el four genotypes, 12 or 16 weeks old. MRI was applied on the day before slaughter. The slices were taken in three orthogonal planes. The resufting pictures indicate that MRI provides very detailed slices. The volume of the fat deposit around the kldneys, the tml body fat volume of the body and the muscle el the hind part was collected from the MRI pictures. Correlation coefficients were computad between the volume of the perirenal fat ancl its weight, the muscle volume el the hind part ancl its weight, the tctal body fat volume and the crude fat content. The correlation values were found to be very high (O. n to 0.94) in the group of age 16 proving that the MRI tomograph is a excellent In vivo method to determine the volumes of fat and muscle. The la.ver correlation values in the group el age 12 (0.39 to 0.76) indicate that the MRI tomography is sensitiva to the digital sampling errors.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , HIGH LUCERNE DIETS FOR GROWING RABBITS(World Rabbit Science. UPV, 1998) FERNANDEZ-CARMONA, J.; BERNAT, F.; CERVERA, C.; Pascual Amorós, Juan José; Departamento de Ciencia Animal; Instituto Universitario de Ciencia y Tecnología Animal; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica y del Medio Natural; Ministerio de Educación y Cultura[EN] The tapie is a study of rabbit production based on lucerne, using three diets: diet 1 , a commercial composition having 11.4 kJ* g dry matter (DM) of digestible energy (DE) and 18.1 % DM crude protein (CP); diet 2, 96% lucerne with 9.0 kJ DE and 17.1 % CP; diet 3, 88.1 % lucerne and 8.9% animal fat, with 10.1 kJ DE and 15.6% CP. The diets were used in fattening 289 weaned rabbits from 35 to 70 days old. Daily liveweight gain, feed conversion ratio and mortality rate for the three diets were significantly different: 40.3 g, 2.8 and 18.7 % (diet 1); 37.3 g, 3.7 and 8.4 % (diet 2); 37.2 g, 3.3 and 5.1 % (diet 3). Diet 1 was linked to a lighter gastrointestinal tract, stomach and stomach contents. Dressing out percentage was 57.8 (diet 1 ), 55.4 (diet 2) and 57.2 (diet 3): animals on diet 2 had a lower dressing percentage. Caecum volume and contents were lower for diet 3. Perirenal fat was significantly different for the three diets: 15.6 g (diet 1 ), 11.4 g (diet 2) and 23.1 g (diet 3)
