Spain, 18-20 May 2005(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005) World Rabbit Science[EN] More than three hundred delegates participated in the XXX National Rabbit Symposium of the Rabbit Spanish Association (ASESCU), organized by ASESCU and the slaughterhouse of rabbits Hermi. The scientific program consisted of eight sessions of work, where twenty-six speakers participated. In the Symposium questions on food safety, animal production, animal welfare, alternative products, nutrition, genetics and epizootic enteropathy were treated. Food Safety. The new tendencies in the commercialization of the rabbit meat were presented, showing a vision of how the rabbit meat must be commercialized to maintain its actual quota of market. How must be implanted a system of critic points in a rabbit farm and the bio-security measures required were others of the subjects treated, being exposed the next obligations that the sector will have to fulfil in this matter in the future. Animal Welfare. A revision of the last research works done in the field of the rabbit welfare was made. The base of the conference was the draft of recommendations that is struggling at the present time in the EU. European Food Safety Agency, a consultative organ of the European Authorities, will be also present in the Congress to present the opinion that they were elaborating on “the impact of the actual housing and breeding systems in the health and welfare of the domestic rabbits”. From this session could be concluded that seems to be required more research in this area to know the ideal conditions of welfare for this specie in commercial farms. Epizootic Enteropathy. This session facilitated to rabbit sector the results of the research trials carried out by different research teams during last the four years. During the sessions on Animal Production, Alternative Products, Nutrition or Genetics, the most distinguished researchers of Spain and Portugal presented the results of their last works.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Abstracts of the "III International Symposium on Rabbit Science - APEZ". Portugal, 2 November 2005(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005) World Rabbit Science[EN] The Portuguese Association of Zoothecnic Engineers (APEZ), to pioneer in the organization of Animal Science and Production related events, organized, in November the 2nd, 2005, the III International Symposium on Rabbit Science. This Symposium was addressed to all professionals that work in this sector, seeking to enrich their knowledge, to provide the change of experiences and to contribute rabbit production invigorate in Trás-os-Montes Region and in Portugal. This event occurred at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real and gathered about 180 participants, among producers, technicians and students. Lectures were exposed by several specialists on themes like feeding of reproductive does and growing rabbits, physiology of reproduction, selection and improvement of future breeders, bio-safety, hygiene and prophylaxis. In the opening session, producers were alerted about the expected changes in management and administration of farms aiming a final product of high quality, since food safety is a growing concern of consumers, a legal demand and it also should be a purpose of producers and of all intervenient in the production chain. In the last session were evaluated the importance of the producers association was enhanced as a form of acquaintance of advantages, either in the negotiation with other agents of the sector.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Abstracts of the "Giornate di Coniglicoltura ASIC". Italy, 30 September - 1 October 2005(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005) World Rabbit Science[EN] This first Italian Rabbit Days, product of the collaboration between ASIC (Italian Rabbit Scientific Association), Avitalia and the Forli Fair, and sponsored by ASPA (Animal Production Scientific Association), was mainly focussed on rabbit production sector throughout a round table about “Legislative aspects and use of drugs in rabbits” during the first day. The second day had a scientific character including 2 reviews of experts on current topics as the nutrition and gut barrier function in meat rabbits, and the value creation in rabbit industry. A total of 26 scientific communications were presented in 2 oral communication sessions and 1 poster session: First Session In this first session were presented 3 communications on rabbit Nutrition and Management, and 3 on rabbit Welfare. Second Session. This session was focussed on rabbit Meat Quality, with 2 communications, and Pathology, including 7 communications. Finally a Poster Session recovered the works presented by 11 European scientific teams.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Abstracts of the 11èmes JOURNÉES DE LA RECHERCHE CUNICOLE 2005(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005) World Rabbit Science[EN] The 11th Rabbit Research Days (JRC), organized by the INRA and the ITAVI with the assistance of the ASFC, was held in Paris, 29-30 November 2005. A total of 58 communications (including 3 reviews) were presented in 9 working sessions. Reproduction. In this session 12 scientific communications were presented, including a literature revision about the knowledge of the factors of success of insemination and the methods suitable for oestrus induction in order to improve rabbit doe fecundity. Meat Quality. This session included 5 scientific communications and a revision where the properties of rabbit meat were compared with those of species most common in human consumption. Nutrition. Feeding and Nutrition session included 6 communications and 1 revision about the feeding behaviour of the rabbit, which its good knowledge is necessary to develop balanced diets for each physiological stage. Other session were about Economy and Genetics (7 comm.), Behaviour and Husbandry (8 comm.), General Pathology (7 comm.) and Enteropathy (7 comm.). Finally, an additional session was assigned to an Actually Topic promoted by ASFC about the effect of the post-weaning management on the performance and health of young rabbits (4 comm.).
