    Límites difusos y horizontes expandidos. Convergencias entre animación experimental y arte contemporáneo

    [EN] Despite their obvious differences, animation and contemporary art share a common space within the field of experimental animation. German Avant-Garde s abstract films of the early 20th century emerge as a result of the graphic expansion towards the cinematographic medium, opening new doors to animation in Europe and America, independently from the big studios. In mid 20th century the animation derived from the aforementioned experimentation was adopted by certain trends of independent film. Nevertheless, since the seventies, experimental animation has succeeded in separating itself from the structure most commonly associated to film by incorporating other variables, placing that production in an ambiguous position. To further explore the consonance between animation and contemporary art, this essay delves into some cases that show the space that they share and the contributions that have emerged as a result.

    Variables presentes en la interpretación y aceptación de elementos de la narrativa anime en campañas publicitarias españolas

    [EN] Since the 1980s, advertising in Spain has used anime characters to promote licensed products or products related to their commercial exploitation. However, despite the enormous growth in manga and anime consumption in recent years, there has been no corresponding growth in the use of anime narratives in advertising campaigns of products or services of brands outside the manganime universe. To this end, we aim to determine the elements that cause the disparity between the increase in anime consumption and its continual absence in advertising creativity in Spain, specifically, in advertising campaigns for products or services that are not directly related to anime series. An interpretive construction is proposed by means of a focus group with university students that allows us to determine their reactions to advertising campaigns from other countries that use anime narratives. Among other aspects, our results reveal the need to understand the narrative universe of anime, its characters and subtext. Similarly, we believe that there should be aesthetic and audiovisual coherence and shared values between anime and brand so that the public accepts it positively and not as an intrusive element. Finally, we define four main variables on which to design advertising campaigns based on anime narratives.

    Arcane: Una distopía para (re)pensar caminos hacia la revolución

    [EN] Arcane (Netflix, 2021-) has become a benchmark in the dystopian television genre. Its meticulous animation, the depth and diversity of its characters, the complexity of its narrative plots, its systemic critique and its transmedia approach make this series an example of quality. For this reason, this article seeks to examine how power relations are represented in a world structured around the Piltover/Zaun binomial and how it is inhabited by characters constructed from different social markers ?social class, gender, origin, racialisation, etc.?. An analysis that not only allows us to identify systemic criticisms typical of dystopia, but also to reflect on possible responses to injustices and imagine alternative solutions from the diverse margins.

    La plasmaticidad eisensteiniana. ¿Pasado, o presente o todo lo contrario?

    [EN] After visiting the Disney studios in 1930, Sergei Eisenstein wrote several texts about a characteristic that he detected in the animation cinema of the time: plasmaticness. With this adjective he tried to define the ability of animated bodies and objects to alter their original form throughout the story. Recently some authors (Cook, 2018; Väliaho, 2017; Rebecchi, 2020) have dusted off these texts and have analyzed animation and its by-products through the plasmaticness proposed by Eisenstein. This text aims to analyze productions of all times of animation cinema to see if the presence of plasticity has decreased, or increased. The intention is to find out if this feature that Eisenstein saw as characteristic of early animation is maintained over time and if it is still present in current productions.

    Hacia una fenomenología de la animación para la investigación interdisciplinaria

    [EN] Phenomenology has enriched film stud-ies through the work of Christian Metz, Gi-lles Deleuze and Vivian Sobchack among others, but its descriptive methodology can also contribute with animation re-search. In this text we analyze phenome-nologically the experience of watching an animated narrative in order to bring to light the a priori structures and dynamics in which animation makes sense. We will delve into the particular attitude of the subject that allows immersion in the ani-mated narrative world, which assumes an intersubjective dimension that articu-lates a personal growth process with cul-tural practices oriented by expectations of encounter and recognition typical of contemporary communication. This phe-nomenological description allows us to understand the value that the audience find in animated stories. The essay also exposes the assumptions that underlie animation studies from their own theo-retical frameworks and methodologies. It therefore offers a primary guidance for systematizing and strengthening interdis-ciplinary research.
